A critical reaction affecting the oxidation chemistry in the middle-to-upper atmosphere occurs between hydroxyl (OH) and hydroperoxyl (HO). The reaction rate coefficient for OH + HO → HO + O, here called , has challenged laboratory kineticists for 50 years. However, several measurements from the past 30 years had approached a rough consensus until the publication of a new study that examined, for the first time, the water vapor dependence of this reaction.

Background Rapid treatment of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) significantly reduces morbidity and mortality rates. Recent studies emphasize the importance of reducing total ischemic time, making first-medical-contact-to-balloon (FMCTB) time a key performance indicator. To improve FMCTB times in patients brought to the Emergency Department (ED) by Emergency Medical Services (EMS), we implemented a "Direct to Lab" (DTL) workflow during the following conditions: weekday daytime hours, when the lab is fully staffed, and for hemodynamically stable STEMI patients presenting via EMS.

Critical minerals (or critical elements) are minerals or elements that are essential to global security and development and have supply chains vulnerable to disruption. In general, knowledge of the environmental behavior and health effects of critical elements is needed to support the development of safe and environmentally responsible supplies. This knowledge includes identifying potential consequences of increased critical element production and use, alternative critical element sources such as mine wastes, and adverse effects of critical elements on ecosystem condition and organismal health.

Background: Antimicrobial use data from inpatients in northern Canada suitable to inform stewardship programs are limited.

Objective: As a special project of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program, to describe antimicrobial use for inpatients in northern Canadian acute care hospitals.

Methods: Participating acute care hospitals serving adult or mixed adult and pediatric populations in northern Canada submitted annual data on the use of all systemic antimicrobials from 2019 to 2021.

Background Cardio-cerebral infarction (CCI) belongs to an area of growing interest within cerebrovascular medicine as it refers to the concurrence of acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) usually within 72 hours. A scenario where both the heart and brain sustain a catastrophic ischaemic insult can be devastating. We describe the incidence, treatment, and outcomes of CCI patients from a North London Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) over two years and propose a potential treatment algorithm for the treatment of CCI.
