Torque teno virus (TTV) viral load (VL), a component of the human virome, increases during immune suppression or dysregulation. This study aimed to explore TTV VL in youths living with vertically acquired HIV (YWVH) and its potential as an immunovirological marker. We performed an observational, retrospective study involving YWVH under antiretroviral treatment (ART) from the Spanish Cohort of HIV-infected children, adolescents, and vertically HIV-infected patients transferred to Adult Units (CoRISpe-FARO), compared to HIV-negative healthy donors (HD).

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed how mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups relate to weight gain and Body Mass Index (BMI) in 1,019 HIV-positive individuals who started first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) since 2014.
  • Over 96 weeks, participants experienced an average weight increase of 2.90 kg and a BMI increase of 0.98 kg/m².
  • The results showed that a specific UK mtDNA haplogroup was significantly associated with less weight and BMI gain after starting ART, suggesting mitochondrial genetics could influence weight changes in people living with HIV.

To evaluate the prevalence of transmitted drug resistance (TDR) to nucleoside and nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI, NNRTI), protease inhibitors (PI), and integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTI) in Spain during the period 2019-2021, as well as to evaluate transmitted clinically relevant resistance (TCRR) to antiretroviral drugs. Reverse transcriptase (RT), protease (Pro), and Integrase (IN) sequences from 1824 PLWH (people living with HIV) were studied. To evaluate TDR we investigated the prevalence of surveillance drug resistance mutations (SDRM).

Article Synopsis
  • - Patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) often face poor quality of life, with up to 20% not surviving beyond a year afterward; a new predictive method aims to improve patient outcomes.
  • - The study involved 102 TAVI patients, with 80.4% showing significant functional improvement after 6 months, and those patients experienced much lower 2-year mortality rates (9% compared to 44%).
  • - The new flow velocity-pressure analysis proved to be a better predictor of improvement than traditional methods, especially for those with low-gradient aortic stenosis, with a C-statistic showing good accuracy in both the main study and validation cohort.

CD300a is differentially expressed among B cell subsets, although its expression in immunoglobulin (Ig)M B cells is not well known. We identified a B cell subset expressing CD300a and high levels of IgM (IgMCD300a). The results showed that IgMCD300a B cells were CD10CD27CD25IgDCD21CD23CD38CD1c, suggesting that they are circulating marginal zone (MZ) IgM memory B cells.
