Article Synopsis
  • Computer generated holograms (CGHs) are essential tools for testing aspherical surfaces and certifying null lens systems used for large aspheric mirrors.
  • By positioning a null-corrector-certifying CGH at a ray caustic, the size of the CGH can be reduced, allowing for the certification of null correctors that wouldn't be possible with larger CGHs.
  • The study demonstrates a CGH with a diameter of about 20mm and a fabrication tolerance of one part in 10,000, which showcases the potential to overcome current size limitations in high-precision CGHs.

The 1996 welfare reform law aims to increase poor women's participation in the work force and encourage their financial independence. Because women's ability to obtain and retain employment is affected by their health status, welfare reform's success is fundamentally tied to poor women's access to health care and to health insurance. Despite this, the rate of uninsurance among poor women with children has grown by half in recent years, leaving 37% of poor mothers uninsured in 2000.

Article Synopsis
  • A specific gene responsible for the enzyme endo-1, 4-beta-glucanase was successfully isolated from the bacterium Bacteroides ruminicola and cloned in E. coli.
  • Through cloning in different vectors, it was discovered that the gene contains a functioning promoter, which increased enzyme activity when expressed from the lac promoter within the pUC18 vector.
  • The enzyme showed optimal performance at pH 5.5-6.0 and temperatures between 37-42 degrees Celsius, with carboxymethylcellulose as the preferred substrate, while its cellulase and xylanase activities were affected similarly by deletions from the gene.
