Surgical approach for iatrogenic tracheoesophageal fistula. Case report and literature review.

Background: Post-intubation tracheoesophageal fistula is a severe complication in long-term mechanical ventilation patients with possible fatal consequences.

Objective: To describe a case of post-intubation tracheoesophageal fistula and its surgical management. In addition, a brief literature review was effectuated.

Dormia basket impacted during ERCP, resolved by laparoscopic bile duct approach: Case report.

Introduction: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the method of choice for treating and removing common bile duct (CBD) stones with high success rates. Among the adverse effects, impaction of the Dormia basket when removing the stones is an unusual complication.

Case Presentation: Two cases of choledocholithiasis with endoscopic treatment by ERCP and Dormia basket impaction, resolved by a laparoscopic approach to the bile duct.

Gastric carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma as an atypical presentation of multiple primary malignancies: a case report and review of the literature.

Background: Gastric carcinoma (GC) with second primary malignancy (SPM) is the most frequent combination within the multiple primary malignancies (MPM) group. The presentation of a GC associated with a synchronized SPM in the kidney is extremely rare and unusual. This study presents a rare case of synchronous tumors, describes the main associated risk factors, and emphasizes the need to rule out SPM.

Extended resections of large thymomas: importance of thymectomy.

Background: Primary tumors of the thymus are rare; the most common histologic type is thymoma. Most important prognostic factors are anatomical extent of tumor and completeness of surgical resection. Large size has not been directly associated with survival, but is strongly associated with advanced disease and high rates of incomplete resections.
