The Use of Long-Term Monthly Basiliximab Infusions as Rescue Maintenance Immunosuppression in Pancreas Transplant Recipients.

This single-center retrospective study was designed to evaluate the use of basiliximab as an alternative rescue maintenance immunosuppression in situations where standard maintenance immunosuppression is not tolerated after a pancreas transplant. All pancreas transplants performed between January 11, 2006, and January 6, 2022, were reviewed. All recipients received rabbit antithymocyte globulin (rATG) induction with tacrolimus + sirolimus maintenance for simultaneous pancreas and kidney (SPK) and additional low-dose mycophenolic acid for pancreas transplant alone (PTA).

Abdominal Gynecologic Procedures in Pancreas Transplant Recipients.

Introduction: With the growing population of pancreas transplant recipients followed long-term, some female recipients are going to require surgical intervention for gynecologic symptoms and pathologies. Currently, there is a lack of literature describing how to approach this population and whether pelvic gynecologic procedures (GYN) can be performed safely given the proximity of the pancreatic (and possibly renal) allograft. In this single-center retrospective analysis, all pancreas transplant recipients that subsequently underwent GYN were reviewed.

Liver Transplant Costs and Activity After United Network for Organ Sharing Allocation Policy Changes.

Importance: A new liver allocation policy was implemented by United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) in February 2020 with the stated intent of improving access to liver transplant (LT). There are growing concerns nationally regarding the implications this new system may have on LT costs, as well as access to a chance for LT, which have not been captured at a multicenter level.

Objective: To characterize LT volume and cost changes across the US and within specific center groups and demographics after the policy implementation.

Generating strategies for a national comeback in pancreas transplantation: A Delphi survey and US conference report.

In the United States, potential transplant candidates with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus are inconsistently offered pancreas transplantation (PTx), contributing to a dramatic decline in pancreas allograft utilization over the past 2 decades. The American Society of Transplantation organized a workshop to identify barriers inhibiting PTx and to develop strategies for a national comeback. The 2-day workshop focused on 4 main topics: (1) referral/candidate selection, (2) organ recovery/utilization, (3) program performance/patient outcomes, and (4) enhanced education/research.
