Parasitic diseases, predominantly prevalent in developing countries, are increasingly spreading to high-income nations due to shifting migration patterns. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates approximately 300 million annual cases of giardiasis. The emergence of drug resistance and associated side effects necessitates urgent research to address this growing health concern.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how specific gene variations (SNPs) affect the development of high triglyceride levels in HIV patients on antiretroviral therapy.
  • A total of 602 patients were genotyped, revealing strong associations between hypertriglyceridemia and certain SNPs (notably rs964184 in APOA5) as well as factors like age and type of medication.
  • The findings suggest that these genetic variations could play a significant role in the side effects experienced by HIV patients undergoing treatment with protease inhibitors.

Cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) (CDDP), known as cisplatin, has been extensively used against breast cancer, which is the most frequent cancer among women, and lung cancer, the leading cancer that causes death worldwide. Novel compounds such as thiazole derivatives have exhibited antiproliferative activity, suggesting they could be useful against cancer treatment. Herein, we synthesized two novel thiosemicarbazones and an aldehyde to combine with CDDP to enhance efficacy against ER-positive breast MCF7 cancer cells, triple-negative/basal-B mammary carcinoma cells (MDA-MB231) and lung adenocarcinoma (A549) human cells.

The purpose of our work was to determine the effects of oxidative stress on the neurodegeneration process in the substantia nigra, and to evaluate dopamine-oxidation metabolites in the plasma using a cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. We have also studied the correlation between the increases in oxidized dopamine-species levels with the severity of lipid-peroxidation in the plasma. Sixty-four male Wistar rats were divided into four experimental groups and received air (Group I, control) or ozone (0.

A voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical ESR study of the reduction processes of five substituted 4-R-2-nitrophenols (R = -H, -OCH(3), -CH(3), -CN, -CF(3)) in acetonitrile was performed. In the potential range considered here (-0.2 to -2.
