Seeking American Society of Clinical Oncology-Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (ASCO-QOPI) certification in a northern New England rural health system and cancer care network.

In 2006 following several years of preliminary study, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) launched the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI). This cancer-focused quality initiative evolved considerably over the next decade-and-a-half and is expanding globally. QOPI is undoubtedly the leading standard-bearer for quality cancer care and contemporary medical oncology practice.

The 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative, clioquinol, is an alpha-1 adrenoceptor antagonist.

Clioquinol (5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline) is an antimicrobial agent whose actions as a zinc or copper ionophore and an iron chelator revived the interest in similar compounds for the treatment of fungal and bacterial infections, neurodegeneration and cancer. Recently, we reported zinc ionophores, including clioquinol, cause vasorelaxation in isolated arteries through mechanisms that involve sensory nerves, endothelium and vascular smooth muscle. Here, we report that clioquinol also uniquely acts as a competitive alpha-1 (α) adrenoceptor antagonist.

Lack of benefit from premedication for pegylated asparaginase during pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma therapy: A side-by-side comparison.

Background: Pegylated l-asparaginase (PEG) is integral to treatment regimens for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and lymphoma. Hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to PEG are common and can preclude continued administration. Data supporting recommendations for universal premedication (UPM) prior to PEG infusion to reduce incidence of HSRs are limited; UPM has become common practice.

Veno-occlusive disease/sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (VOD/SOS) is a rare, serious complication following haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). This systematic literature review evaluated differences in clinical manifestations of VOD/SOS post-HCT in adults and children. Medline and Embase were searched up to 4 March 2021 for reports of VOD/SOS post-HCT; VOD/SOS diagnostic guidelines were included.
