Background: Intrathecal baclofen therapy (ITB) is a well-established treatment modality for severe spasticity, but it is burdened by the need for periodic pump refills. The introduction of a new formulation of baclofen with an extended stability of 180 days (Neteka, Nordic Group BV) could decrease the frequency of refills. We aimed at analyzing the clinical and economic impact of Neteka introduction in our outpatient facility.

A first-in-class vaccine adjuvant delivery system, Mn-ZIF, is developed by incorporating manganese (Mn) into the zinc-containing zeolitic-imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). The mixed metal approach, which allowed for tunable Mn doping, is made possible by including a mild reducing agent in the reaction mixture. Glioma associated macrophages/microglia (GAMs) play an important role in glioblastoma (GBM) progression, due to their massive recruitment to the tumor site and polarization to a tumor promoting phenotype. GAMs secrete a variety of cytokines, which facilitate tumor cell growth and invasion, and prevent other immune cells from mounting an immune response against the tumor. Here, we demonstrate that zinc finger and BTB containing domain 18 (ZBTB18), a transcriptional repressor with tumor suppressive function in glioblastoma, impairs the production of key cytokines, which function as chemoattractant for GAMs.

Abnormal electromyographical trigeminal activation through stimulation of the offending artery (Z-L response): An intraoperative tool during microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia.

Background: There are currently no intraoperative neurophysiological tools to assess the effectiveness of trigeminal nerve decompression during microvascular decompression surgery for drug-resistant trigeminal neuralgia. In microvascular decompression surgery for hemifacial spasm, an abnormal electromyographic activation of facial muscles after stimulation of the offending vessel was identified and named 'Z-L response'.

Methods: We adapted a neurophysiological protocol to elicit a Z-L response during microvascular decompression surgery for trigeminal neuralgia and applied it to a prospective series of 18 surgical patients.

Introduction: Subtalar arthrodesis (SA) is a common procedure to treat end-stage subtalar osteoarthritis. We set out in order to determine whether a combined direct fixation of both anterior and posterior facets during SA might influence union and complications compared to isolated fixation of the posterior facet. Our hypothesis was that a combined fixation increases the union rate and reduces the complication rate.

Optimizing surgical technique in microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm - Results from a surgical series with contemporary use of neuronavigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring.

Background: Microvascular decompression (MVD) through a retrosigmoid approach is considered the treatment of choice in cases of hemifacial spasm (HFS) due to neurovascular conflict (NVC). Despite the widespread of neuronavigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) techniques in neurosurgery, their contemporary application in MVD for HFS has been only anecdotally reported.

Methods: Here, we report the results of MVD performed with a combination of neuronavigation and IONM, including lateral spread response (LSR) in 20 HFS patients.

This review aimed to critically appraise the most recent orthopedic literature around cone beam weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT), summarizing what evidence has been provided so far and identifying the main research trends in the area. This scoping review was performed on studies published between January 2013 and December 2023 on the Pubmed database. All studies (both clinical and nonclinical) in which WBCT had been used were critically analyzed to extract the aim (or aims) of the study, and the main findings related to the role of this imaging modality in the diagnostic pathway.
