Bladder rupture 11 years after partial cystectomy for bladder endometriosis: A case report and review of literature.

Partial cystectomy is often performed to treat bladder endometriosis. However, there are no reports of bladder rupture more than 10 years after cystectomy. A 55-year-old woman with a history of laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and partial cystectomy for bladder endometriosis at the age of 44 years presented with worsening dysuria, decreased urine output, and malaise for over a week.

Hepcidin as a key regulator of iron homeostasis triggers inflammatory features in the normal endometrium.

Menstrual blood, containing high iron levels, can undergo retrograde transport into the abdominal cavity. Excess iron causes oxidative stress and inflammation. Iron metabolism is regulated by hepcidin, and serum hepcidin levels are increased in patients with endometriosis; however, the functions of hepcidin in normal endometrium remain unclear.

Postoperative Pregnancy Outcomes Following Laparoscopic Surgical Management in Women with Stage III/IV Endometriosis: A Single-Center Follow-Up Study.

Objectives: The effects of laparoscopic surgical management in women with stage III/IV endometriosis remain controversial. The standard extent of resection for stage III/IV endometriosis with deep endometriosis to treat endometriosis-associated infertility is debatable. This study aimed to assess the postoperative pregnancy outcomes following a routine surgical intervention for stage III/IV endometriosis patients.

Reduced innate lymphoid cells in the endometrium of women with endometriosis.

Problem: Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), a recently discovered family of innate immune cells, are responsible for the early immune response, and control both innate and adapted immune system via cytokine secretion. The role of ILCs in endometriosis has not been investigated; therefore, here, we aimed to investigate how the proportion of ILCs changes in endometriosis.

Method Of Study: The percentage of each ILC group in CD45 cells was examined in the peripheral blood, peritoneal fluid, endometrium, and ovarian endometrioma obtained from women with and without endometriosis (ERB-C-1216) using flow cytometry.

Primary Ovarian Leiomyoma Associated with Multiple Uterine Leiomyomas.

Ovarian leiomyomas are very rare. We report the case of a primary ovarian leiomyoma accompanied by multiple uterine leiomyomas. A 50-year-old woman was referred to our department for heavy menstruation, and a hot spot in the uterine lumen was observed on positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT).

Interleukin-9 produced by helper T cells stimulates interleukin-8 expression in endometriosis.

Problem: Inflammation and immune responses play crucial roles in the development of endometriosis. Although interleukin-9 (IL-9) has a pro-inflammatory function in chronic inflammatory diseases, its function in endometriosis remains unknown. Here, we aimed to investigate the significance of IL-9 and IL-9-producing lymphocytes in endometriosis.

Successful detection of rectal injury during laparoscopic surgery using a rectal probe in a patient with deep endometriosis.

Laparoscopic surgery has become the gold standard treatment for endometriosis. Surgical treatment of deep endometriosis with colorectal involvement is challenging. It requires complete surgical excision of lesions despite a high risk of complications that include rectal injury, rectovaginal fistula and pelvic abscess.

Unexpected tumor-to-tumor metastasis of synovial sarcoma within leiomyoma: A case report and literature review.

A tumor metastasis within another tumor is known as tumor-to-tumor metastasis (TTM). We report a 43-year-old woman who presented with hypermenorrhea and an abdominal mass. She had history of a soft tissue tumor on her left ankle at 38 years of age.

Protocol for a modified vaginal pipe for total laparoscopic hysterectomies: Experimental research.

Background: The Vagi-Pipe® is a useful device for performing a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. The conventional model of the Vagi-Pipe® is unable to grasp the uterus during colpotomy for recovery of the resected uterus. However, the modified C-Type Vagi-Pipe® model has a shape that allows insertion into the vagina without removing the uterus manipulator.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α-mediated pathway as a possible therapeutic target in endometriosis.

Study Question: Is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α)-mediated pathway involved in the development of endometriosis?

Summary Answer: PGC-1α plays critical roles in inflammation and cell proliferation of endometriotic tissues and may be involved in the development of endometriosis.

What Is Known Already: Expression levels of PGC-1α are higher in ovarian endometrioma (OE) than normal endometrium (NE). PGC-1α also stimulates aromatase activity and promotes local estrogen biosynthesis in OE.

Massive prolapsed submucous fibroid treated with laparoscopic surgery: A case report.

Prolapsed uterine fibroids are pedunculated submucous fibroids that prolapse through the cervical canal. Herein, we describe the laparoscopic treatment of massive prolapsed submucous fibroids. A 47-year-old woman had experienced frequent urination and abnormal vaginal bleeding for 7 years.

Successful Laparoscopic Surgery without Neuromuscular Blockade in a Patient with Malignant Hyperthermia Susceptibility.

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a life-threatening clinical syndrome of hypermetabolism involving skeletal muscle. Susceptibility to MH is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. Its common trigger is exposure to volatile anesthetic agents or depolarizing muscle relaxants.

Dienogest therapy during the early stages of recurrence of endometrioma might be an alternative therapeutic option to avoid repeat surgeries.

Aim: We aimed to evaluate whether hormonal therapy immediately after postsurgical recurrence of ovarian endometrioma controls disease progression and can be an alternative therapeutic option to avoid multiple repeat surgeries.

Methods: We enrolled 146 patients treated for endometrioma at the University Hospital of Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine between 2009 and 2015. After laparoscopic cystectomy using the stripping technique, opening of cul-de-sac obliterations and complete resection of the deep infiltrating endometriosis lesions, the patients either received no treatment (n = 83), oral contraceptives (OC; n = 32) or dienogest (DNG; n = 27), depending on their medical history.

Isolated fallopian tube torsion diagnosed and treated with laparoscopic surgery: A case report.

Among diseases causing acute lower abdominal pain in women, isolated fallopian tube torsion is very rare, with an annual prevalence of 1 in 1.5 million. Because it has fewer findings on imaging compared to adnexal torsion, the correct diagnosis can rarely be made before an operation.

Effects of low-dose combined drospirenone-ethinylestradiol on perimenstrual symptoms experienced by women with endometriosis.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a 24/4-day regimen of a low-dose combination drospirenone-ethinylestradiol oral contraceptive in alleviating perimenstrual symptoms among Japanese women with endometriosis.

Methods: The present prospective, non-randomized study enrolled women diagnosed with endometriosis radiographically or surgically at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine hospital, Japan, between December 1, 2010 and August 31, 2013. Patients received treatment with oral drospirenone-ethinylestradiol for six treatment cycles.

Endometrioid adenocarcinoma arising from deep infiltrating endometriosis involving the bladder: A case report and review of the literature.

Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disease. Abnormally biosynthesized estrogens in endometriotic tissues induce the growth of the lesion and worsen endometriosis-associated pelvic pain. Dienogest (DNG), a selective progesterone receptor agonist, is widely used to treat endometriosis and efficiently relieves the symptoms.

G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 agonist G-1 induces cell cycle arrest in the mitotic phase, leading to apoptosis in endometriosis.

Objective: To demonstrate the effects of the selective G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER) agonist G-1 in human ovarian endometriotic stromal cells (ESCs).

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrium-like tissues at extrauterine sites, most commonly in the abdominal cavity. Lymph node endometriosis is a rare but clinically important type of endometriosis that can mimic lymph node metastasis of a malignant tumor. (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is a useful tool for diagnosing malignant tumors, although it occasionally shows false positive results in tissues with high metabolic activity caused by severe inflammation.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, coactivator 1α enhances local estrogen biosynthesis by stimulating aromatase activity in endometriosis.

Context: Endometriosis is an estrogen-dependent disease, and estrogen is overproduced by abnormally elevated aromatase in endometriotic tissues. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) is a transcriptional coactivator-modulating steroid hormone.

Objective: To investigate the effect of PGC-1α on aromatase activity in endometriosis.

Usefulness of moistening seprafilm before use in laparoscopic surgery.

Purpose: Seprafilm is an ideal synthetic adhesion barrier, but its insertion into the abdomen in laparoscopic surgery is difficult because of its stiff and brittle nature. We tested the usefulness of a novel technique of moistening Seprafilm before use to increase its flexibility before insertion through a trocar during laparoscopic surgery.

Methods: Laparoscopic pelvic surgeries that were followed by insertion of Seprafilm were evaluated in 67 women.
