Finding homologous sequences in a reference database enables the estimation of taxonomic and functional characteristics of each query sequence. Because current metagenomic sequencing data consist of a large number of nucleotide sequences, the time required for sequence similarity searches account for a large proportion of the total time.

Herein, we disclose a generalized approach for the preparation of α-H-α-amino acids in enantiomerically pure form and with up to 99% deuteration. The reaction chemistry involved in this process is based on the dynamic kinetic resolution of racemates or (S)-(R) interconversion via the formation of intermediate Ni(ii) complexes derived from unprotected amino acids and recyclable tridentate ligands.

However, little is known about differences in physical performance related to low-intensity light physical activity (LLPA), high-intensity light physical activity (HLPA), and moderate-intensity physical activity (MPA) and how they are separated by sex in elderly populations.

The genus Endomicrobium is a dominant bacterial group in the gut of lower termites, and most phylotypes are intracellular symbionts of gut protists. Here we report the discovery of Endomicrobium ectosymbionts of termite gut protists. We found that bristle-like Endomicrobium cells attached to the surface of spirotrichosomid protist cells inhabiting the termite Stolotermes victoriensis.

Complex, Dynamic Behavior of Extremely Asymmetric Di-n-Alkylphosphate-Anion Aggregates, the Long-Chain Effect and the Role of a Limiting Size: Cryo-TEM, SANS, and X-Ray Diffraction Studies.

For extremely asymmetric n-hexyl(n-decyl)phosphate (HDeP), n-hexyl(n-dodecyl)phosphate (HDoP), and n-hexyl(n-cetyl)phosphate (HCeP), the effect of the long-chains on the dynamic behavior of their aggregate structures in water was examined by cryo-TEM imaging, SANS, and X-ray diffraction techniques. The cryo-TEM images demonstrated the complex and dynamic behavior of the aggregates, and its dependence on the length of the long-chain. Application of the one-dimensional aggregate theory to the SANS results led to the conclusion that the existence of a limiting size also depended on the length of the main long-hydrocarbon chain and affected strongly the dynamic behavior of the aggregates, causing breakage of thread-like micelles or ribbon-like aggregates.
