Background: Narcolepsy is a chronic hypersomnia of central origin, linked with dysfunction of hypocretin-containing neurons, localized in the lateral hypothalamus. Main symptoms of narcolepsy include excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, hypnagogic hallucinations and sleep paralysis.
