Background: Corpus callosotomy (CC) is a palliative neurosurgical procedure for patients with intractable epilepsy and without resectable focal epileptogenic lesions. Anterior commissurotomy (AC) has been historically performed with CC. However, the efficacy and safety of adding AC to CC remain unknown.

Overall, 100 acute coronary syndrome patients whose culprit lesions had PR, documented by optical coherence tomography (OCT), were enrolled. Lesion-specific three-dimensional coronary artery models were created using OCT data.

This instability predominantly involves the uncontrolled mobilization of LTR retrotransposons (LTR-TEs), which are the most abundant class of mobile genetic elements in plant genomes. Here, we demonstrate that in conditions inductive for high LTR-TE mobilization, like abiotic stress in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) and callus culture in rice (Oryza sativa), application of the reverse transcriptase (RT) inhibitor known as Tenofovir substantially affects LTR-TE RT activity without interfering with plant development.

Aims: Increased left atrial pressure leads to pulmonary congestion. Although the B-lines in lung ultrasound (LUS) are useful in detecting pulmonary congestion, data regarding the association between B-lines and invasive haemodynamics are inconsistent. This study aimed to explore the correlation of the B-line count by LUS with pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) stratified for preserved and reduced ejection fraction (EF) in acute heart failure patients.

We conducted a genome-wide association study meta-analysis of 100,204 CRC cases and 154,587 controls of European and east Asian ancestry, identifying 205 independent risk associations, of which 50 were unreported. We performed integrative genomic, transcriptomic and methylomic analyses across large bowel mucosa and other tissues.

AA causes cancer owing to its mutagenic and genotoxic metabolite, glycidamide (GA), and its effects on sex hormones. Both AA and GA can interact with hemoglobin to hemoglobin adducts (HbAA and HbGA, respectively), which are considered appropriate biomarkers of internal exposure of AA.

HSCR potentially involves multiple gene aberrations and displays complex patterns of inheritance. Mutations of the RET gene, encoding the RET receptor tyrosine kinase, play a central role in the pathogenesis of HSCR.

Methods: Using a cohort database from a Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study, we evaluated 26 738 participants (16 351 men and 10 387 women), who responded to a questionnaire about working hours and followed these participants from 1993-1994 to 2013. Participants were divided into four groups according to working hours (≤6, 7-8, 9-10, ≥11 h/day).
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) enters cells using angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and neuropilin-1 (NRP-1) as the primary receptor and entry co-factor, respectively. Cell entry is the first and major step in initiation of the viral life cycle, representing an ideal target for antiviral interventions. In this study, we used a recombinant replication-deficient vesicular stomatitis virus-based pseudovirus bearing the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 (SARS2-S) to screen a US Food and Drug Administration-approved drug library and identify inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 cell entry.

Background: Few studies have examined the state of oral function in older adults with sarcopenia. We assessed the oral functions of community-dwelling older adults with sarcopenia from multiple perspectives to clarify their potentially low oral function.
Methods: A total of 1517 (86.
The study aimed to evaluate the association between green tea and coffee consumption and the risk of kidney cancer using data from a large prospective cohort study in Japan (the Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study: JPHC Study). A total of 102,463 participants aged 40-69 were followed during 1,916,421 person-years (mean follow-up period, 19 years). A total of 286 cases of kidney cancer (199 in men, 87 in women) were identified.

This study aimed to develop a new approach for root caries prevention by focusing on bioapatite (BioHap), a new biomaterial, combined with fluoride. Bovine dentin was used as a sample, and an acid challenge was performed in three groups: no fluoride (control group), acidulated phosphate fluoride treatment (APF group), and BioHap + APF treatment (BioHap group).

To determine the role of UTX (also known as KDM6A), a demethylase of histone H3K27, in neural development, we generated Utx-deficient mice in neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs). Since Utx is an X chromosome-specific gene, the genotypes are sex-dependent; female mice lose both Utx alleles (Utx ), and male mice lose one Utx allele yet retain one Uty allele, the counterpart of Utx on the Y chromosome (Utx ).

Here, we aimed to assess the association between incident cancer and risk of death from pneumonia in Japanese in a large population-based cohort study.
Methods: We used the data from The Japan Public Health Center-based Prospective Study (JPHC Study), which enrolled subjects aged 40 to 69 between 1990 and 1994 and followed their cancer incidence and mortality until 2013.
Background: March hemoglobinuria is caused by a hemolytic mechanism due to transient hematuria after physical exercise which, although rare, may lead to acute kidney injury. We report a case of a patient with march hemoglobinuria induced by kendo, which was diagnosed by the presence of Berlin blue iron staining in the proximal tubules through renal biopsy.
Case Presentation: A 15-year-old male complained of fever (37 °C), general malaise, and nausea after hard kendo sessions.
Identifying the minimal and optimal epileptogenic area to resect and cure is the goal of epilepsy surgery. To achieve this, EEG analysis is recognized as the most direct way to detect epileptogenic lesions from spatiotemporal perspectives. Although ictal direct-current shifts (below 1 Hz) and ictal high-frequency oscillations (above 80 Hz) have received increasing attention as good indicators that can add more specific information to the conventionally defined seizure-onset zone, large cohort studies on postoperative outcomes are still lacking.

To identify new biomarkers for predicting the treatment response and prognosis, we explored exosomal microRNA (miRNA) expression signatures associated with the outcome of cervical cancer patients treated with CCRT. Exosomes were isolated from the plasma of 45 patients prior to CCRT during 2014-2020, and miRNA analysis was performed by next-generation sequencing.

However, there have been fewer studies on the fatigue behavior and fatigue crack growth (FCG) properties of free-cutting brass, primarily because emphasis has been placed on the development of lead-free free-cutting brass. In this study, fatigue experiments were performed in the atmosphere at room temperature using three types of free-cutting, two types of bismuth (Bi)-based (with different grain sizes), and lead (Pb)-based brasses.

Conventional modalities are mainly symptomatic, with no definite solution. Beta-glucan-based biological response modifiers are a potential strategy in lieu of their beneficial metabolic effects.
