Background And Objectives: To determine whether intra-individual differences in pre-donation blood test results were associated with vasovagal reactions (VVRs).

Materials And Methods: The study included donors who voluntarily donated 400 mL of whole blood at least twice during a 5-year blood collection period of the Japanese Red Cross, including both donations with and without a VVR. A conditional logistic regression analysis by age group and sex was conducted, using each donor as a stratum, together with an analysis of deviance to test the significance of including an interaction term between age group and blood data in the regression model.

Spindle and giant cell type undifferentiated carcinoma of the extrahepatic bile duct is an uncommon malignancy. We report a case involving the common bile duct in a 72-year-old male with jaundice who was admitted to our hospital. Diagnostic imaging, including abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, revealed a mass in the distal common bile duct, accompanied by dilatation of both intra- and extrahepatic bile ducts and regional lymph node enlargement.

The MAPK and PI3K pathways are involved in cancer growth and survival; however, the clinical efficacy of single inhibitors of each pathway is limited or transient owing to resistance mechanisms, such as feedback signaling and/or reexpression of receptor-type tyrosine kinases (RTK). This study identified a potent and novel kinase inhibitor, TAS0612, and characterized its properties. We found that TAS0612 is a potent, orally available compound that can inhibit p90RSK (RSK), AKT, and p70S6K (S6K) as a single agent and showed a strong correlation with the growth inhibition of cancer cells with PTEN loss or mutations, regardless of the presence of KRAS and BRAF mutations.

Interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) is a master regulator of macrophage phenotype and a key transcription factor involved in expression of proinflammatory cytokine responses to microbial and viral infection.
