Dengue is one of the main vector-borne diseases and has become a severe Public Health problem during the last decade, both in Mexico and worldwide. This report analyses two decades (1990-2011) of dengue in Mexico, based on reports published by the Ministry of Health. The data show that although the incidence rate of dengue in Mexico has remained constant throughout the last two decades, the incidence rate for dengue hemorrhagic fever has increased importantly since 2002 (20% of cases).

Dengue is one of the principal vector-transmitted diseases leading to important public health problems in Mexico and Latin America. On the American continent this disease has been reported mostly in adults, which contrasts with Asian countries where pediatric dengue is more prominent. During the last decade a shift towards pediatric dengue has been reported in various countries of the American continent.
