Autoimmune uveitis is a relapsing blind-causing ocular condition with complex pathogenesis that is not completely understood. There is a high demand for accurate animal models of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) suitable for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of the disease and testing new therapeutic approaches. Here, we demonstrated that photoreceptor Ca/Zn-sensor protein recoverin is a uveoretinal antigen in albino rabbits provoking typical autoimmune chorioretinitis 2-4 weeks after immunization.

Structure and Neuroprotector Properties of a Complex Compound of Lithium with Comenic Acid.

The structure, antioxidant and neuroprotective properties of lithium comenate (lithium 5-hydroxy-4-oxo-4H-pyran-2-carboxylate) were studied. Lithium comenate was obtained by reacting comenic acid (HCom) with lithium hydroxide in an aqueous solution. The structure of lithium comenate was confirmed via thermal analysis, mass spectrometry, IR, NMR and UV spectroscopy.

Since mid-1990s, the HIV-1 epidemic in Russia has started to grow substantially due to the multiple HIV-1 outbreaks among persons who inject drugs (PWID) leading to expansion of the HIV-1 sub-subtype A6 (former Soviet Union (FSU) subtype A).

Bioavailability and Safety of Dihydroquercetin (Review).

Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) is a bioflavonoid with high antioxidant, capillary-protective, and anti-inflammatory activity. DHQ has previously been used for treating Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection and is currently considered a potential regulator of oxidative stress as part of COVID-19 multipurpose therapy. DHQ has a high safety profile but low bioavailability that limits its use.

Characterization of HIV-1 Epidemic in Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan has one of the highest rates of HIV-1 spread in Central Asia. In this study, we used molecular-epidemiological approaches to examine the HIV-1 epidemic in Kyrgyzstan. Samples were obtained from HIV-positive individuals who visited HIV/AIDS clinics.

Consensus Integrase of a New HIV-1 Genetic Variant CRF63_02A1.

The high genetic variability of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) leads to a constant emergence of new genetic variants, including the recombinant virus CRF63_02A1, which is widespread in the Siberian Federal District of Russia. We studied HIV-1 CRF63_02A1 integrase (IN_CRF) catalyzing the incorporation of viral DNA into the genome of an infected cell. The consensus sequence was designed, recombinant integrase was obtained, and its DNA-binding and catalytic activities were characterized.

Predominance of CRF63_02A1 and multiple patterns of unique recombinant forms of CRF63_A1 among individuals with newly diagnosed HIV-1 infection in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.

Kemerovo Oblast (KO) has had the highest rate of HIV spread in Russia since 2011. The aim of this work was to study the genetic variation of HIV-1 in Kemerovo Oblast. Blood was sampled from a total of 91 HIV-positive antiretroviral-therapy-naïve individuals in 2013 (38) and 2015 (53).

[Extracorporeal lithotripsy in combination with endoscopic papillotomy in choledocholithiasis].

Results of treatment of 30 patients of 50 to 90 years of age having choledocholithiasis by the method of extracorporeal lithotripsy (EL) combined with endoscopic operations on the major duodenal papilla are described. The first stage in the treatment was endoscopic papillosphincterotomy. There were 41 sessions of EL (at an average 1,37 procedure for each patient).

[Amino acid composition of chicken serum albumin].

Studies have been made on the amino acid composition of electrophoretically homogeneous albumin and its main isoelectrically homogeneous fraction in two strains of hens and their hybrid. Serum albumin of hen and hybrid is characterized by higher total content of Asp and Glu residues as compared with that of the cock (137, 121, and 116 respectively) and lower content of Lys (59 against 66). The acidity of albumin increases in the line cock-hen-hybrid.
