[Low-manifest infections in children and adolescents with consequences of perinatal damage of nervous system].

Aim: Study the specter of low-manifest infections (LMI) and their role in children and adolescents with diseases of central nervous system (CNS) against the background of consequences of perinatal damage of nervous system (PDNS).

Materials And Methods: Infectologic and neurologic examinations were carried out in 42 patients with consequences of PDNS (17 girls and 25 boys, 3 - 15 years). Detection of LMI resulted in etiotropic therapy with evaluation of clinical and laboratory data in dynamics.

[Low-manifest infections with CNS damage in patients in prolonged unconscious state of non-inflammatory etiology].

Aim: Study of specter of low-manifest infections (LMI) with central nervous system (CNS) damage and their role in patients in prolonged unconscious state (PUS) of noninflammatory etiology.

Materials And Methods: 32 patients (23 male, 9 female; age 14-58) in PUS of various etiology were examined. The main group (18 patients) received therapy against all infectious diseases including LMI; control group (14 patients)--only against common and nosocomial microflora.

[Vegetative state (prolonged coma) as manifestation of stable pathological state].

Complex examination of 25 patients in vegetative state was performed before and after correction of secondary brain damage. Catamnesis over a period of at least 6 months was traced. Preliminary results showed that better recovery of consciousness and cognitive functions was observed if before treatment diffuse glucose hypometabolism was significantly more widespread than morphological changes.

[Experience with maxipime in neurosurgical clinic].

Cefepime (Maxipime, Bristol-Myers Squibb), a 4th generation cephalosporin was used in the postoperative treatment of 121 patients of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit of Neurosurgical Clinics. The patients were divided into groups by the risk factor of pyoseptic complications. The results were estimated by the number and nature of the complications such as increasing liquor neutrophilic cytosis, systemic inflammations and others.

[The prevention and treatment of bronchial fistulae after pulmonectomy for lung cancer].

Bronchial fistula was found in 5.4% of 542 lung cancer patients treated with pneumonectomy. A relationship between occurrence of fistula and laterality of lesion, extent of surgery, procedure for closing the bronchial stump and gender was established.

[Indications for Wanach's operation in cancer of the lower lip].

The authors examined 206 case reports of patients with primary cancer of the lower lip and of 5 patients with recurrences after radiotherapy, who were subjected to the upper jugular excision during a 10-year period (since 1964 to 1973). Metastases were found histologically in 63% of the cases. Based on the analysis of the material according to the TNM classification, it is believed that the upper jugular excision should be indicated if a) tumors are more than 2 cm in size or in the presence of the infiltrative growth (T3); B) if lymph nodes (N1B, N2B) suspected of metastases are detected, especially in their unilateral enlargement (N1B); c) in the presence of local recurrence if the Wanach surgery was not performed previously.
