Modifications of the selective silver impregnation methods of Nauta and Fink-Heimer are described. Both procedures were tested in wide variety of species: from reptiles to carnivores, as well as in human autoptic cases. The modified Nauta procedure is recommended as a method of choice for tracing axonal trajectories due to an improved impregnation selectivity of the degenerating axoplasm.

During the ultrastructural investigation of the cat's subthalamic nucleus (STN), profiles exhibiting features attributed to dendrites and simultaneously containing synaptic vesicles, were encountered. Most of them take part in synaptic triads, usually as an intermediate component. On the basis of their electron microscopical appearance, and synaptic relationships, they might be discriminated, as a distinct ultrastructural entity.

The degenerative changes within the cat's subthalamic nucleus (Sth) following lesions of the external pallidum were studied by electron microscopy. Four to five days following pallidal lesions a great number of terminals undergoing degenerative changes were encountered in the ipsilateral Sth. The contralateral Sth was free of degeneration.

The systems C9H8O4-(C9H7O4)2Ca-25% ethanol-water mixture (I), C9H8O4-(C9H7O4)2Ca-50% ethanol-water mixture (II), C9H8O4-(C9H7O4)2Ca-95% ethanol-water mixture (III) have been investigated at 15 degrees C by physico-chemical analytical methods. It was established that under the conditions of the no experiments no double or triple compounds of acetylsalicylic acid and calcium acetylsalicylate have been formed. The fields of the crystallization of the pure components are outlined.

The ultrastructure of neuro-muscular relations in m. sphincter pylori of a cat was examined by fixation with CsO4 using imersion and staining of a sample of tissue with uranyl acetate during delydration. There were regular, dense and parallel muscular cells with intersticial spaces in the range of 250 A.

Reversible change of 50 S ribosomal subunits to 40 S particles takes place in cold buffered 0.5 M NH4Cl solutions either containing Mg++ (up to 0.1 M), or free from Mg++ and even supplemented with EDTA (1 mM).
