The first freshwater amphibian representative of Crinocheta (Oniscidea) from the Neotropics is described from caves within the Brazilian Cerrado biome, state of Mato Grosso do Sul. is placed in the family Philosciidae. The present work represents a significant contribution to future studies seeking to understand the ecological and evolutionary processes of Crinocheta within the Neotropical region.

Campos-Filho, Torres & Bichuette, from Gruna do Govi cave, Serra do Ramalho karst area, state of Bahia, and Campos-Filho, Taiti & Bichuette, from Toca Coroa do Frade cave, Barra Bonita karst area, state of Piauí. The use of molecular data in association with classical taxonomy has helped to alleviate the taxonomic impediment through the discovery, delimitation and description of new species. Terrestrial isopods are the largest suborder of Isopoda; however, there are very few active taxonomists in this group and a representative part of the terrestrial isopods world diversity remains unexplored.
