Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a major public health concern in both community and hospital settings worldwide. Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the main causative agent of UTI and increasingly associated with antibiotic resistance. Herein, we report the draft genome sequence of 9 fluoroquinolone-resistant UPEC isolates from Brazil and examine selected major phenotypic features, such as antimicrobial resistance profile, phylogroup, serotype, sequence type (ST), virulence genes, and resistance marks.

Although consumers and the food industry have an interest in reducing the use of synthetic additives, the consumption of processed meat in Brazil has been increasing because of the easy preparation and low cost. Owing to the antimicrobial and antioxidative properties of Ocimum basilicum essential oil (EO), it has potential applications in food products. Polyphosphates are already used in meat processing with the goal of improving the quality of the products.
