Background: Micro-osteoperforation is a minimally invasive technique aimed at accelerating tooth movement. The goal of this novel experimental study was to assess tooth movement and stress distribution produced by the force of orthodontic movement on the tooth structure, periodontal ligament, and maxillary bone structure, with and without micro-osteoperforation, using the finite element method.

Materials And Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography was used to obtain a virtual model of the maxilla and simulate the extraction of right and left first premolars.

Introduction: The early orthodontic treatment allows correction of skeletal discrepancies by growth control, and the elimination of deleterious habits, which are risk factors for the development of malocclusions, favoring for the correction of tooth positioning later in a second treatment stage. During development of teeth and occlusion, the mandibular second molars commonly erupt in the oral cavity after all other teeth of the anterior region. In their eruptive process there may be a condition known as tooth impaction, which precludes its complete eruption and requires proper uprighting treatment.

Purpose: Patients with dentofacial deformities tend to show poorer oral health-related quality of life, but few studies thus far have focused on this topic. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to evaluate oral health-related quality of life, self-esteem, and depression in patients with Class II and Class III dentofacial deformities before orthodontic treatment and to compare these patients with controls with harmonic faces.

Materials And Methods: This observational, cross-sectional study compared 2 groups (experimental vs control) of patients recruited at an outpatient orthodontic clinic.

This case report refers to an 11-year-old boy with avulsion of the upper left central and lateral incisors. The teeth were replanted after 4 h, splinted with a semi-rigid splint for 12 days, and then endodontically treated. Severe progressive root resorption was seen after 2 years and the teeth were extracted.
