Background And Objectives: This review aims to delve into the role of artificial intelligence in medicine. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by superficial mucosal inflammation, rectal bleeding, diarrhoea and abdominal pain. By identifying the challenges inherent in UC diagnosis, we seek to highlight the potential impact of artificial intelligence on enhancing both diagnosis and treatment methodologies for this condition.

Difficulties Encountered by Forensic Pathologists in Proving Abusive Head Trauma in Children: A Case Report.

Shaken baby syndrome (SBS) or abusive head trauma (AHT) is one of the most common causes of death or serious neurological injury resulting from child abuse. AHT is defined as injury to the skull or intracranial contents of an infant or child younger than five years due to intentional abrupt impact and/or violent shaking. It is characterized by acute encephalopathy with subdural and retinal hemorrhages.

Mammoth Bilateral Ovarian Serous Cyst Adenomas in a Postmenopausal Woman: A Rare Case Report.

Serous cyst adenomas account for about 40% of all ovarian tumors and most commonly are diagnosed in middle-aged women. The aim of this publication is to present an extremely rare case of mammoth bilateral cyst adenomas in a postmenopausal woman, occupying the pelvis and the most of abdominal cavity. A 67-year-old obese woman was presented to our emergency department with abdominal pain.

Post-COVID-19 Pulmonary Infarction Complicated by Spontaneous Pneumothorax: A Case Report.

Pulmonary cavitation is an atypical finding in COVID-19 patients. In this rare case report, a 63-year-old woman (35 days from COVID-19 symptom onset) presented to our emergency department with acute chest pain and shortness of breath. A chest X-ray established right-sided total pneumothorax, hence a tube thoracostomy was performed.

Lyophilic and Sorption Properties of Chitosan Aerogels Modified with Copolymers Based on Glycidyl Methacrylate and Alkyl Methacrylates.

This paper discusses the influence of the structure of copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and alkyl methacrylates with C-C hydrocarbon side groups on the wettability and sorption properties of surface-modified chitosan aerogels. The grafting of copolymers onto the surface of aerogels was confirmed by elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result of the modification, with an increase in the amount of the hydrocarbon substituent alkyl methacrylate, the surface of the resulting materials became hydrophobic with contact angles in the range of 146-157°.

Effect of the Composition of Copolymers Based on Glycidyl Methacrylate and Fluoroalkyl Methacrylates on the Free Energy and Lyophilic Properties of the Modified Surface.

This study proposes to use reactive copolymers based on glycidyl methacrylate and fluoroalkyl methacrylates with a low fluorine content in the monomer unit as agents to reduce the surface free energy (SFE). This work reveals the effect of the structure and composition of copolymers on the SFE and water-repellent properties of these coatings. On a smooth surface, coatings based on copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate and fluoroalkyl methacrylates with fluorine atoms in the monomer unit ranging from three to seven are characterized by SFE values in the range from 25 to 13 mN/m, which is comparable to the values for polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes and perfluoroalkyl acrylates.

Complicated spontaneous intercostal lung hernia - A rare clinical case.

Spontaneous lung herniation is a rare pathological entity. We present a case of intercostal type of spontaneous lung hernia after heavy lifting complicated with huge soft tissue hematoma, single rib fracture, hemothorax, diaphragmatic laceration, and great omentum pleural cavity herniation in a 46-year-old man. His comorbidities were arterial hypertension, congestive heart failure, and type II diabetes mellitus and had no history of trauma, surgical procedures in his thoracic wall, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Spontaneous pneumothorax associated with COVID-19 pneumonia: a single-centre retrospective study.

Spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) is a rare complication of COVID-19 pneumonia; it affects both intubated and non-intubated patients. The pathogenesis includes barotrauma and pneumatocele formation. In the following article, we present case series of 18 patients with COVID-19 associated pneumothorax - a detailed demographic and clinical analysis were performed.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) belonging to Flavivirus genus causes severe infection in humans. The search for therapeutically relevant compounds targeting TBEV requires the exploration of novel chemotypes. A versatile synthesis of previously unknown 4-aminopyrimidines and 4-aminopyrimidine N-oxides based on a fluorosubstituted heterocyclic core is described.

Palladium-catalyzed amination of dichloroquinolines with adamantane-containing amines.

Pd-catalyzed amination of isomeric 2,6-, 2,8-, 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines was studied using adamantane-containing amines in which substituents at the nitrogen atom differ in bulkiness. The selectivity of the amination of 2,6-dichloroquinoline was very low, substantially better results were obtained with 2,8-dichloroquinoline, and 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines provided the best yields of the amination products. Diamination of 4,8- and 4,7-dichloroquinolines was carried out with two amines which differ strongly in the bulkiness of the alkyl group.

Adult Bochdalek hernia simulating left pleural effusion: a review and a case report.

The authors present a rare case of congenital diaphragmatic Bochdalek hernia in an adult stimulating left pleural effusion. The diagnosis of left pleural effusion was made on the basis of conventional chest X-ray and ultrasonography. The definitive diagnosis of Bochdalek hernia was made by left video-assisted thoracoscopy.

Descending necrotizing mediastinitis of odontogenic origin--personal experience and literature review.

Patients And Methods: Three patients (men, aged 75, 73, and 63) with descending necrotizing mediastinitis hospitalised between April 2007 and February 2009 have been included in the study.

A series of dihydro-alkylthio-benzyl-oxopyrimidines (S-DABOs) bearing a 2-aryl-2-oxoethylsulfanyl chain at pyrimidine C2, an alkyl group at C5, and a 2,6-dichloro-, 2-chloro-6-fluoro-, and 2,6-difluoro-benzyl substitution at C6 (oxophenethyl- S-DABOs, 6-8) is here described. The new compounds showed low micromolar to low nanomolar (in one case subnanomolar) inhibitory activity against wt HIV-1. Against clinically relevant HIV-1 mutants (K103N, Y181C, and Y188L) as well as in enzyme (wt and K103N, Y181I, and L100I mutated RTs) assays, compounds carrying an ethyl/ iso-propyl group at C5 and a 2,6-dichloro-/2-chloro-6-fluoro-benzyl moiety at C6 were the most potent derivatives, also characterized by low fold resistance ratio.

Occlusive ileus as a complication of large intestinal diverticulosis (contribution of two cases).

After a short literature review of diverticulosis of the colon and its complications, the authors give a thorough description of two cases treated by them for sigmoid colon diverticulosis complicated with occlusive ileus. The patients were males aged 68 and 74 years. In both cases the authors had difficulties in making the precise intraoperative diagnosis.

Surgical treatment of necrotizing pancreatitis and complicated forms of cholecystopancreatitis.

The authors present a retrospective clinical analysis of 25 operated patients with necrotizing pancreatitis and severe cholecystopancreatitis. The severity of the disease was evaluated by the Ranson scale. Diagnosis was made using all available contemporary diagnostic methods.
