Article Synopsis
  • The paper investigates how adding short basalt fibers (CBFs) to carbon textile-reinforced geomortar affects the mechanical properties of thin plates, focusing on flexural behavior through strength tests.
  • The study compares hybrid composite specimens with reference specimens (without CBFs) and analyzes their performance, noting that the addition of CBFs improves flexural strength but not the failure modes during testing.
  • Results show that while the CBF content affects workability and clustering during mixing, the anchoring capacity of the textile layers is crucial for overall strength in the specimens tested.

This paper presents temperature-dependent properties and fire resistance of geopolymer foams made of ground basalt fibers, aluminum foaming agents, and potassium-activated metakaolin-based geopolymers. Temperature-dependent properties of basalt-reinforced geopolymer foams (BGFs) were investigated by a series of measurements, including apparent density, water absorption, mass loss, drying shrinkage, compressive and flexural strengths, XRD, and SEM. Results showed that the apparent density and drying shrinkage of the BGFs increase with increasing the treated temperature from 400 to 1200 °C.
