Gastric cancer (GC) remains the most common malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract and one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including microRNAs (miRNAs), are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of GC and, therefore, may be potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. Our work was aimed at investigating the predicted regulation of by miR-129-5p and miR-3613-3p and the clinical value of their aberrant expression in GC.

Background: The new synthesized water-soluble derivatives of C fullerenes are of a great interest to researchers since they can potentially be promising materials for drug delivery, bioimaging, biosonding, and tissue engineering. Surface functionalization of fullerene derivatives changes their chemical and physical characteristics, increasing their solubility and suitability for different biological systems applications, however, any changes in functionalized fullerenes can modulate their cytotoxicity and antioxidant properties. The toxic or protective effect of fullerene derivatives on cells is realized through the activation or inhibition of genes and proteins of key signaling pathways in cells responsible for regulation of cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, proliferation, and apoptosis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFullerenes and metallofullerenes play an active role in homeostasis of reactive oxygen species and may cause oxidative damage to cells. As pristine fullerenes are a basis for derivatization, studying oxidative DNA damage/repair and apoptosis is important in terms of genotoxicity and cytotoxicity for their biomedical application. Aqueous dispersions of C, C, and Gd@C (5 nM and 1.

As reactive oxygen species homeostasis plays a vital role in cells, the study of their effect on genes involved in oxidative stress and anti-inflammatory responses are of particular importance.
Methods: Human fetal lung fibroblasts were incubated with aqueous dispersions of C, C, and Gd@C in concentrations of 5 nM and 1.
Congenital renal malformations are the most common congenital malformations in humans, the most common being horseshoe kidney with joined lower poles present in up to 0.25% of general population. To the contrary renal fusions with ectopia are amongst the rare malformations affecting 1 in 2000 examined cadavers.

The assay allows detecting methanol in the concentration range of tens ppm of in the presence of tens per cent of ethanol. The lower determination threshold for methanol is at least 0.

The sensitivity of the method allows detecting ethanol in biological fluids (saliva and blood serum). Secondary alcohols and other organic compounds do not interfere with the assay.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA modified urease hypochlorite method for measuring urea in biological fluids is described. Its novel feature is the use of 4-hydroxycoumarin as ammonia acceptor. This compound has never been used for this purpose, and it has a number of advantages over traditional phenol and its derivatives: the measurement is performed in just two steps, the compound is nontoxic and used in low concentrations, and the accuracy of measurements is higher due to decrease of the systemic error.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA chemiluminescent method has been offered to assay the blood serum total cholesterol. The method is based on coupled enzymatic reactions in two steps: (1) esterified cholesterol hydrolysis by cholesterol esterase in the presence of sodium cholate and (2) cholesterol oxidation by cholesterol oxidase and chemiluminescent assay of the released hydrogen peroxide in peroxidase reaction with luminol and p-iodophenol. Separation of these steps results in a better accuracy of the test as against the one-step procedure.

Four strains of the species Francisella tularensis were used in the present work: a live vaccine strain 15/10 and three virulent strains (503, Schu, 543) from three different subspecies. The bacterial membranes were prepared by the 0.5% N-laurylsarcosinate (Sarcosyl) treatment.

The pH dependence of the rate of glucose oxidase-catalyzed reactions in the presence of oxygen and artificial electron acceptors was studied. In contrast to the reaction involving oxygen, in which the maxima of the pH activity profile were observed at pH 5.

The measured sedimentation coefficients of different components in the system can be classified into 12 groups, which is indicative of a complex multistep association process of the enzyme (with more than 3 oligomers). The concentration dependence of weight average sedimentation coefficient of phosphofructokinase was a studied.

Whole cells and cell-free preparations of the methylotrophic bacteria, Pseudomonas sp. AM 1 and Achromobacter parvulus, can oxidize formate at tis concentration in the reaction medium up to 1 M. The respiration of whole cells is registered at a concentration of formate greater than 10(-2) M, while that of cell-free extracts at a formate concentration greater than 5 X 10(-5) M.

The process of electrochemical oxidation of formate on a coal electrode with the help of a two-enzyme system composed of NAD-dependent formate dehydrogenase and NADH-dehydrogenase, catalysing oxidation of NADH with reduction of methylviologen was studied. In this system the oxidation of formate proceeds in the diffusion regime. Under experimental conditions the value of current density at a potential higher than +0,2 V and at the rotating rate of 600 rpm is 12 mA/cm2.

Ganglioside and ganglioside-serotonin micellae were equal in sizes if pH, the ionic strength and the type of the buffer, the temperature and serotonin concentration were given. When the ganglioside micellae were saturated with serotonin the micallae became able to jumping reconstruction forming the structure able to bind more serotonin than the first one.
