During cultivation under nitrogen starvation, Yarrowia lipolytica produces a mixture of citric acid and isocitric acid whose ratio is mainly determined by the carbon source used. We report that mitochondrial succinate-fumarate carrier YlSfc1 controls isocitric acid efflux from mitochondria.
