Paraplegic patients have always been ideal candidates for physiotherapy due to their body's inability to recover on its own. Regardless of the cause that led to the onset of paraplegia (traumatic or degenerative), physiotherapy helps these patients with devices and methods designed to restore the proper functioning of their motility, as well as their quality of life. A total of 60 paraplegic dogs without deep pain in the hindlimbs caused by intervertebral disc extrusion or thoracolumbar fractures underwent physiotherapy sessions: manual therapy (massage), electrostimulation (10-20 min with possible repetition on the same day), ultrasound therapy, laser therapy, hydrotherapy, and assisted gait in supportive devices or on treadmills to stimulate and relearn walking, which was the main focus of the study.

The most common alloys in this field are those based on Mg, their main advantage being the ability to degrade gradually, without affecting the patient, and also their ability to be fully absorbed by the human body. One of their most important conditions is the regeneration and replacement of human tissue.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMg-based biodegradable materials, used for medical applications, have been extensively studied in the past decades. The in vitro cytocompatibility study showed that the proliferation and viability (as assessed by quantitative MTT-assay-3-(4,5-dimethyltiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) were not negatively affected with time by the addition of Mn as an alloying element. In this sense, it should be put forward that the studied alloys don't have a cytotoxic effect according to the standard ISO 10993-5, i.

As the most well-known example, resveratrol proved to have anti-aging effects and significant potential in the fight against cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer. Mass spectrometry is an analytical method of critical importance in all studies related to stilbenes that are important in the biomedical field.

Characterization and evaluation of immunotherapeutic potential of ovotransferrin PC2 (OTf PC2) were performed in this study. The ovoprotein was obtained from egg white from hens immunized with bacterial antigens, pathogenic for humans. For the negative control samples, OTf was extracted from eggs collected from Specific Pathogen-Free (SPF) hens and purified by affinity chromatography on Protein G-agarose column with two eluting peaks: I, representing ovalbumin, and II, ovotransferrin.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) sensor for the quantitation of lysozyme dimer in monomer-dimer mixtures, reaching a detection limit of 1.4nM dimer, has been developed. The sensor is based on an aptamer which, although developed for the monomeric form, binds also the dimeric form but with a strikingly different kinetics.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel aptamer and surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based sensor was developed for the label-free detection of lysozyme. The aptasensor is characterised by a detection limit of 1 μg mL(-1) and a linear range of 5-50 μg mL(-1). As an application, we examined the usefulness of the aptasensor for monitoring the early stages of the aggregation of lysozyme.
