The paper gives the results of an investigation of platelet serotonin levels in patients with tick-borne encephalitis to determine a criterion for predicting the development of its to-wave course. Fifty-five patients were examined at the height of tick-borne encephalitis (in the first 2-4 days): Group 1 included 39 patients with a one-wave course of the disease; Group 2 consisted of 16 patients with its two-wave course. Platelet serotonin concentrations were determined by enzyme immunoassay.

The natural factors of the "Kluchi" resort are successfully used for the medical rehabilitation of the patients suffering from nonspecific pain in the lower back for a long time. The present comprehensive study of the painful psychovegetative status and the level of blood serotonin included 78 patients presenting with lumbar dorsopathy. After the course of the treatment based at the "Kluchi" health resort, the most significant improvement in the patient's condition was documented in the case of the combination of peloid balneotherapy with magnetic laser therapy and application of efthidermum MPE to the lumbar region.

Group 1 included 35 patients with non-paralytic neuroinfection; Group 2 comprised 9 patients with paralytic neuroinfection. The serum level of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein increased and that of serotonin decreased in relation to the form and severity of the disease at its height.

Natural therapeutic factors are successfully used at the Klyuchi health resort for the rehabilitation of the patients presenting with dorsopathies. A total of 120 patients with this condition were examined for the evaluation of their algic and psychovegetative status before and after the balneopeloid therapeutic treatment in combination with transcranial electrostimulation of the brain. Serum serotonin levels were measured during the same periods.

The aim of the study was to investigate quantification of serum serotonin levels and compare the results with inflammatory markers in patients with acute traumatic brain injury. We investigated cytokine, serotonin, psychovegetative status in 72 patients with traumatic brain injury of mild to moderate severity. Increase of serotonin, depending on the severity correlates with the antiinflammatory cytokine markers.

The complex study of cognitive and emotional status, levels of serum serotonin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were performed in 72 patients with acute traumatic brain injury, with a special focus on middle brain injuries (MBI), treated with Cerebrolysin. The neurological and cognitive impairment, mild state anxiety and depression and increased levels of humoral serotonin, which depends on the severity of the injury, were identified in patients with MBI before treatment. After the treatment, there were the decrease in the severity of neurological symptoms and a significant positive dynamics on the FAB scale as well as the increase in blood BDNF and serotonin levels.

A comprehensive survey of 78 patients with chronic vertebral low back pain was conducted. Among them were 23 (29,5%) patients with radiculopathy and 55 (70,5%) patients with reflex syndromes without exacerbations. It was shown that patients with compressive syndromes of lumbar dorsopathy were characterized by the high intensity of pain, pronounced neuropathic pain component, lower quality of life as well as the significantly low serum serotonin content that was correlated with the degree of neuropathic pain severity and depression level.

Psychoemotional status and blood serotonin level were investigated in 69 patients with different forms of idiopathic epilepsy during the seizures and interictal period. Twenty-two patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, 22 patients with absence forms and 22 patients with generalized convulsive seizures, aged 10-47 years, were included in the study. We found the significant decrease in blood serotonin levels during the interictal period, with the lower levels seen after generalized convulsive and myoclonic seizures.

Tension headache (TH) belongs to the most frequent type of idiopathic headaches. Depression and dysfunction of serotonin metabolism play a key role in the pathogenesis of TH. The study of headache intensity, psychometric testing and determination of blood serotonin (S) concentration using the method of enzyme immunoassay before and after treatment with antidepressant prodep were performed in 140 patients with TH.

A comprehensive psychometric testing and measurement of the serum levels of serotonin by enzyme immunoassay were made before and after treatment with the antidepressant Prodep in 76 patients with chronic tension headache. The patients generally had cephalgia and moderate depression, which were associated with the lower blood concentration of serotonin. A course of antidepressant therapy with Prodep ameliorated headache and depression in the presence of higher serum serotonin levels.

The indices of blood haemostasis adequately reflecting the state of coagulative, fibrinolytic, anticoagulative and platelet aggregation systems were examined in 150 patients with acute ischemic stroke. The four haemostasiological syndromes such as hyperaggregation, hypercoagulation, depressed fibrinolysis, hypercoagulation and three types of thrombophilias were distinguished and described in detail. The special features of coagulopathic disorders depending on etiology, severity and stroke onset period were characterized.

Modern informative techniques were employed to explore the coagulation, fibrinolytic and aggregation platelet systems of hemostasis in 117 patients in the most acute , acute, early, late restorative and residual periods of ischemic brain stroke. Disorders of the hemostatic system in the form of hyperaggregation, hypercoagulation, depression of fibrinolysis, and an increase of blood viscosity were revealed as were some specific features marking different period of brain stroke. Mono- and multi-systemic disorders of hemocoagulation and three types of coagulopathies were distinguished.
