Cases of tularemia were registered in the Crimea both before and after planned immunization. In 1981-1993 in 4.000 localities 35,100 mammals, 27,400 ectoparasites, 8,800 feces left by birds of prey and foxes and 900 environmental specimens were studied.

The epidemic process of cholera in a mental-hospital setting is to a great extent influenced by specific factors. In view of a danger of cholera being brought into a mental in-patient facility the authors insist, based on their own experience, that in summer and autumn seasons in South regions and urban settlements with unstable, in respect of cholera, epidemic situation, not only patients with intestinal disfunction be examined for cholera but all those individuals to be managed at above facility. It is all-important for a mental hospital to have a plan at their disposal of primary antiepidemic measures to be instituted in case dangerous infections will pose too difficult a problem to deal with, with pharmacy being envisaged, provided with all the stores required.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAbout a hundred of patients with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) were recorded over the latest decade in the Crimea, and 60 TBE virus strains were isolated from the ticks collected on the peninsula. The results of studies carried out in 1986-1990 helped define the borders of 4 local natural foci of TBE, study their acarifauna, detect the principal TBE vector--Ixodes ricinus (with a mean virophority of 0.6%), and distinguish two foci with a combination of TBE and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever.

The immune status of the Crimean population with respect to tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus has been studied. The results of the study confirm the existence of natural foci of TBE in the Crimea. The most active and potentially dangerous foci are located in forests of the mountain area of the peninsula.
