A newly detected antigen common for transplantable HeLa-like cell lines and human gastric mucosa has been revealed in all parts of the stomach and in highly differentiated gastric adenocarcinomas in humans. It is localized in the basal area of tall columnar cells in the mucosa and has one immunologically active subunit with molecular weight of 39 kDa. The antigen differs from the other earlier described gastrointestinal antigens in its localization in the organs and cells and in other characteristics.

Indirect radioimmunoblotting on nitrocellulose filters and ELISA on polystyrene plates were employed to test the specimens of the normal and tumor tissue of the mammary gland for antigens which cross react with antigens of structural proteins of mouse mammary gland carcinoma virus. The antigens were detected in 9 tumor specimens out of 25 under testing and in 1 out of 15 specimens of the normal tissue. Such antigens failed to be detected in fibroadenoma or tumors of other sites.

A comparative study of the antigenic structure of oncornavirus of J-96 cells and Mason-Pfizer virus (M-PVM) isolated from cells of M. rhesus spontaneous mammary tumour was carried out using immunodiffusion in agar, immune autoradiography and indirect immunofluorescence procedures. Immune rabbit serum to disrupted J-96 virus detected by agar immunodiffusion in preparations or purified virus three soluble antigens one of which was identical to group-specific M-PVM antigen.
