[Application of expanders in surgical treatment of an infant with large myelomeningoradiculocele].

In the article authors describe application of expanders for effective closure of skin defect after surgical removal of large myelomeningoradiculocele in an infant.

[Surgical treatment for anterior cerebral hernias].

The paper describes the authors' experience in treating 22 patients aged 2 months to 16 years who had congenital anterior cerebral hernias. A comprehensive principle that consists in removing hernial defects of the pachymeninx and skull base, excising herniation, and performing reconstructive operations in concomitant craniofacial deformities was used in the treatment of children with anterior encephalocele. All these surgical procedures were, if possible, performed in one step.

[Modified method of assessing spontaneous erythrocyte aggregation].

To prevent infection of the examinees via blood during venipuncture and to simplify the method for assessment of red cell spontaneous aggregation the authors have compared red cell aggregation in venous and capillary blood. Red cell aggregation coefficients assessed by various methods in blood samples collected from the finger and vein were virtually the same; hence, this characteristics can be investigated in a capillary blood sample.

[The inhibitory neuronal reactions of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus in rats].

Experiments with electric stimulation of the hypophyseal stalk and hippocampal formation revealed a great significance of the direct inhibitory control of the neurosecretory unit activity. Various types and mechanisms of primary inhibitory responses and postactivation [correction of pastactivafahory] inhibitory processes, as well as their role in the activity of neurosecretory cells and other neurons of the supraoptic area, are discussed.

[Primary retroperitoneal adenocarcinoma].

A rare case is reported of retroperitoneal papillary adenocarcinoma in a 25-year-old female. Two recurrences were observed after surgical and radiation treatment. The tumour became inoperable after the second recurrence.

[An electrophysiological analysis of the hippocampal projections to the neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus and to the neurons of the perinuclear zone in rats].

The impulse activity of the antidromically identified neurosecretory cells, orthodromically activated and non-responded neurons was recorded in the rat hypothalamic supraoptic area under the hypo-physeal stalk stimulation. Stimulation of the ventral hippocampus induced responses in 14, 59 and 46% of the corresponding cells, resp. The short-latency excitatory reactions were predominant.

[Transvaginal ultrasonography in the assessment of local extension of rectal cancer].

To explore potentialities of transvaginal sonography in the diagnosis of rectal tumors 33 female patients were examined. Transvaginal sonography was shown to be optimum for accurate local staging of rectal tumors. The overall staging accuracy for transvaginal sonography in this study was 94%.

[The neuronal reactions of the perinuclear zone of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus in rats to stimulation of the hypophyseal stalk and the hippocampus].

The orthodromically activated neurons (OAN) were recorded in the hypothalamic supraoptic area under the hypophysial stalk stimulation. They were distinguished by the pattern of the orthodromic activation and the recording sites. More than a half of OAN responded to the stimulation of ventral hippocampus and the responses were primary excitatory in all cases.

[Electrophysiologic study of hippocampal projections to the neurosecretory cells of the supraoptic nucleus in rats].

Impulse activity of antidromically identified neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamic supraoptic nucleus, evoked by stimulation of the ventral hippocampus, was studied. Short-latency excitatory phasic reactions were revealed and no inhibitory responses were found. The existence of excitatory synaptic inputs was found from the hippocampus to other neurons of the supraoptic nucleus and perinuclear zone.

[Relation between epiphyseal-limbic-hypothalamic interrelations and regulation of gonadotropin secretion and lactation].

Functional activity of hypothalamic structures was studied in endocrinological and electrophysiological experiments as well as in vitro studies. Functional changes of limbic-hypothalamic relations and control mechanisms of gonadotropin secretion under the effect of pineal polypeptides and in relation to lactation, were analysed.

[Proliferative mucosal changes of the corpus and cervix uteri in women using intrauterine contraceptives].

The paper discusses the incidence and peculiarities of proliferative changes in cervical and uterine mucosa of women with a record of using polyethylene intrauterine contraceptives (Lipps' loop) under 12 years. Intrauterine contraception is not conducive to a rise in the frequency of either precancer or cancer of the uterine cervix; nor is it responsible for endometrial malignancies.

[Evaluation of the cancer risk of intrauterine contraception based on cytological studies of the endometrium].

Risk for malignant transformation of the endometrium as a result of administration of intrauterine contraceptives for not more than 12 years was assessed by analysis of the mitotic cycle characteristics and sex chromatin level in the endometrium. No signs of pronounced proliferative processes or atypia were detected in the endometrium of females who took intrauterine contraceptives. However, a slight increase in metaphases and pathologic mitoses was observed in those women who had used contraceptives for a period longer than 7 years.

[Dynamics of the infraslow omega potential and of the spatial synchronization of the EEG in muscle fatigue].

The object of the present study was the dynamics of infraslow omega-potentials and EEG interrelated activity modifications in young and adult (19-25 years old) sportsmen during strenuous endurance exercise on a cycle-ergometer. Correlation and coherence analysis revealed at the initial stage of muscle fatigue an increase of close relationship (synchronization and in phase readjustment) of different cortical areas potentials mainly between the prefrontal and precentral cortex. It is suggested that this phenomenon is an EEG reflection of voluntary increase of fatigue overcoming.

[Transformation of cortical functional systems during the process of motor habit formation and disruption].
