A nonhuman primate model of GA was developed and its responsiveness to an approved treatment, avacincaptad pegol (ACP), a complement C5 inhibitor, was evaluated. The profunda artery perforator (PAP) flap, commonly used for small- to medium-sized breast reconstructions, offers easy harvest and inconspicuous donor-site scars. However, its shorter vascular pedicle compared with the deep inferior epigastric perforator flap limits its reach to lateral recipient vessels. This often requires strategic placement of perforators at the flap's edge to extend reach, potentially causing congestion in the distal part of the flap.

Cancer treatment-related financial toxicity in Japan: a scoping review.

Financial toxicity during cancer survival has been studied mainly in the United States; 47-49% of cancer survivors reported financial hardships and 12-63% reported debt owing to treatment costs. Financial toxicity is influenced by each country's economic status and healthcare system. We aimed to review the evidence on financial toxicity in Japan.

Breast cancer local recurrence after mastectomy with immediate latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap reconstruction: A case report.

Even though most local recurrences after autologous breast reconstruction occur in superficial tissue, they also occur in deep tissue in the reconstructed breast. A 49-year-old woman presented with a bloody discharge from the right nipple. Ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic area in her right breast, which was diagnosed as ductal carcinoma in situ on histopathology.

Comparison of older and younger patients with ovarian cancer: A post hoc study (JGOG3016-A3) of the treatment strength and prognostic outcomes of conventional or dose-dense chemotherapy.

Aim: To evaluate changes of treatment strength and its impact on prognosis in older patients with ovarian cancer.

Methods: We compared relative dose intensity (RDI) as a representative of treatment strength, prognosis, and other features between older (≥65 years) and younger patients (<65 years) retrospectively. Seventy-seven older patients of 301 who received dose-dense-paclitaxel-carboplatin (dTC) and 93 older patients of 304 who received conventional-paclitaxel-carboplatin (cTC) from the Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group (JGOG) 3016 clinical trial were analyzed.

Perceptions and practice patterns of cancer survivorship care among Japanese gynecologic oncologists: The JGOG questionnaire survey.

Objective: This study aimed to assess gynecologic oncologists (GOs)' perceptions and attitudes toward cancer survivorship to help improve survivor care.

Methods: We conducted a web-based questionnaire survey about survivorship issues for the GOs belonging to the Japan Gynecologic Oncology Group. We analyzed the proactiveness of the participants toward addressing 25 survivor issues.

Objectives: We have observed white turbidity when a midazolam injection is administered from a lateral tube during the administration of a peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN) solution. The aim of the current study was to determine how to avoid compound changes when co-administering a midazolam injection and a PPN solution.

Methods: Midazolam solutions were prepared by diluting a midazolam injection with a 5% glucose intravenous infusion.

Relationship Between Corticosteroid Dose and Muscle Oxygen Consumption in Recipients of Hematopoietic Stem-Cell Transplantation.

Introduction: After hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT), patients exhibit decreased muscle strength and muscle oxygen consumption. Furthermore, total corticosteroid dose affects the reduction in muscle strength after HSCT. However, to date, no studies have investigated the relationship between corticosteroid dose and muscle oxygen consumption and saturation in these patients.

Predictors of Functional Decline in Activities of Daily Living at Discharge in Patients After Cardiovascular Surgery.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the trajectory of functional recovery of activities of daily living (ADL) from the time of admission up to hospital discharge, and explored which preoperative and postoperative variables were independently associated with functional decline in ADL at discharge of patients after cardiovascular surgery.

Methods and results: In this observational study, we evaluated ADL preoperatively and at discharge using the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) in patients after cardiovascular surgery. Functional decline in ADL was defined as scoring 1-5 on any one of the FIM items at discharge.

The Laterally Extended Paramedian Forehead Flap for Nasal Reconstruction: The Delay Technique Revisited.

Background: Problems with poor circulation often occur when a large defect or a distant region, such as the apex of the nose, is covered with a paramedian forehead flap. Delay technique increases the safety of reconstruction procedures, but it has been used less frequently because a 2-stage surgery is necessary, and various other flaps and techniques have been developed.

Method: We performed the delay technique of paramedian forehead flap at the same time as tumor resection.

Phase 1/2 study of concurrent chemoradiotherapy with weekly irinotecan hydrochloride for advanced/recurrence uterine cancer: A multi-institutional study of Kansai Clinical Oncology Group.

Objective: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy using cisplatin was thought to be standard treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of cervix, but it had not been effective for adenocarcinoma. Concurrent chemoradiotherapy using irinotecan hydrochloride (CPT-11) had been effective for colorectal cancer, thus, we chose CPT-11 as a candidate for gynecologic adenocarcinoma. To evaluate the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of weekly CPT-11 with external pelvic radiotherapy, a phase 1/2 study was conducted according to modified Fibonacci method.

However, to date, no studies have investigated the relationship between exercise capacity and muscle oxygen saturation at rest in these patients. Therefore, purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between exercise capacity and muscle oxygen-hemoglobin (O2Hb) saturation (SmO2) at rest and patients' hemoglobin level before undergoing HSCT.

Relationship Between Muscle Oxygen Saturation and Exercise Load in Patients with Malignant Hematopoietic Disease.

Our previous research confirmed that patients with malignant hematopoietic disease already had a low hemoglobin level before allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). However, no study has determined whether a correlation exists between exercise load, hemoglobin level, and muscle oxygen saturation (SmO), during exercise. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-derived SmO is associated with exercise load, as determined by a dynamometer, before allo-HSCT.

Interleukin-8 and clinical symptoms can be prognostic indicators for advanced cancer patients with cachexia.

Objectives: Prognostic prediction is a significant tool for selecting appropriate treatment in advanced cancer patients with cachexia, at a time when it is important to offer high-quality palliative care and improve quality of life until death. In this retrospective study, we investigated the prognostic potential of serum cytokine level and various clinical symptoms by analyzing the pathological conditions and metabolic dynamics of cachexia in advanced cancer patients.

Methods: One hundred and fifty-three advanced cancer patients who underwent palliative care and died at the Department of Surgery and Palliative Medicine, Fujita Health University Nanakuri Memorial Hospital between 1 January 2004 and 30 June 2007 were eligible for the study.
