Background: Addressing the limited access to treatments for alcohol dependence, we developed ALM-002, a therapeutic application to be "prescribed" for non-abstinence-oriented treatment in internal medicine settings. Our objective was to preliminarily assess the efficacy and safety of ALM-002.

Methods: In a multicenter, open-label randomized controlled trial, participants aged ≥20 with alcohol dependence and daily alcohol consumption exceeding 60 g for men and 40 g for women, without severe complications, were randomly assigned to either the intervention group using ALM-002 or the treatment-as-usual control group.

Aerobic oxidative dimerization of hydroxystilbenoids is described. A Cr-salen complex catalyzed the dimerization of hydroxystilbenoids in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol to form compounds comprising a natural product-like scaffold (quadrangularin) or its precursor depending on the aromatic substituents. The addition of a catalytic amount of scandium triflate [Sc(OTf)] to the reaction system altered the reaction outcome to give a different natural product-like compound, a pallidol-type dimer.

Introduction: The occurrence of massive haemorrhages in various emergency situations increases the need for blood transfusions and increases the risk of mortality. Fibrinogen concentrate (FC) use may increase plasma fibrinogen levels more rapidly than fresh-frozen product or cryoprecipitate use. Previous several systematic reviews and meta-analyses have not effectively demonstrated FC efficacy in significantly improving the risk of mortality and reducing transfusion requirements.

Some studies have asked participants about attentional state on a scale from on-task to off-task, which set the middle option as attention focused on both, including the possibility of the coexistence of thoughts. In addition, studies using multidimensional probes explicitly assumed coexistence within spontaneous thoughts and task-focus dimensions. Although several studies have assumed the coexistence of some thought dimensions, none has explored whether these are different types of thoughts (task-focus, mind-wandering, task-related, external stimuli-related).

Background: A shortage of donor organs amid high demand for transplantable organs is a worldwide problem, and an increase in organ donation would be welcomed by the global healthcare system. Patients with brain death (BD) are potential organ donors, and early prediction of patients with BD may facilitate the process of organ procurement. Therefore, we developed a model for the early prediction of BD in patients who survived the initial phase of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Article Synopsis
  • Hypoalbuminemia in patients can lead to fluid overload and severe complications, but combining albumin with diuretics might improve patient outcomes by increasing urine output and lung function.
  • A systematic review of randomized trials was conducted to examine the effects of this combination treatment in mechanically ventilated hypoalbuminemic patients, focusing on hypotensive events, mortality, and ventilation length.
  • Results from three studies indicated that albumin did not significantly lower hypotensive events or mortality, but showed potential benefits in improving oxygen levels; however, the overall evidence was rated as low certainty, and more studies are needed.

Enzymatic glycosylation is an industrially useful technique for improving the properties of compounds with hydroxy groups, and the biological activities of the resulting glycosides differ depending on the glycosylation position. Therefore, regioselective glycosyltransferases are required for precise synthesis of glycosides. We found that Rhizobium pusense JCM 16209 could catalyze the regioselective glycosylation of resveratrol.

Article Synopsis
  • Koumparou et al. conducted a randomized controlled trial assessing the impact of stress management training (SMT) on women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), finding that while SMT had limited effectiveness on IVF outcomes, it notably reduced stress levels in these patients.
  • * The study emphasizes the importance of SMT to support the mental health and motivation of women facing infertility, highlighting the prevalent psychological stress in this group.
  • * However, concerns about the trial's reliability are raised, including unclear registration, lack of participant background data, potential selection bias, and insufficient details about the IVF process, which all undermine the study's conclusions.

A stable salt-tolerant cell-suspension culture of was established, and intracellular compounds that accumulated under salt-stress conditions were investigated. HPLC/MS, and NMR analyses indicated that enhanced accumulation of coniferin was found during the growth phase in medium containing 150 mM NaCl. Coniferin or its derivatives may play an important role in salt-tolerance mechanisms in this plant.

Aortic and arterial calcification is a complication of advanced atherosclerosis and is a critical intraoperative issue that can reduce the ability to achieve safe and adequate access for stent graft introduction. Different vascular access sites are used to deliver stent grafts when a standard transfemoral or iliac access is not feasible. We report a challenging case of a direct transabdominal aortic thoracic endovascular aortic repair for a thoracic aortic aneurysm complicated with severe aortic and arterial calcification, in which the noncalcified area of the infrarenal abdominal aorta was extremely limited.

In patients with a congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (ccTGA), the regurgitation of the systemic atrioventricular valve (SAVV) increases and anatomical right ventricular (ARV) dysfunction often progressively develops. A low systemic ventricular ejection fraction( SVEF) is a risk factor for mortality. However, in patients with a low ejection fraction of ARV, it is unclear how to best perform valve replacement for patients with regurgitation of SAVV.
