Lipid-lowering therapy plays a central role in reducing cardiovascular events. Over the past few decades, clinical trials utilizing several imaging techniques have consistently shown that lipid-lowering therapy can reduce the coronary plaque burden and improve plaque composition. Although intravascular ultrasound has been the most extensively used modality to assess plaque burden, other invasive modalities, such as optical coherence tomography and near-infrared spectroscopy, provide relevant data on plaque vulnerability, and computed tomography angiography detects both plaque volume and characteristics non-invasively.

Flowers cluster at various spatial scales, so pollinators use information from multiple scales when foraging in natural plant populations. Little is known about the effects of interactions between scales or their relative strength. We examined bumblebee foraging behaviour in a natural population of Salvia nipponica in 10 and 7 patches in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

sp. nov., a xerophilic species isolated from honey in Japan.

Five isolates of a xerophilic species were obtained from honey in Japan. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on a combined dataset for four regions (rRNA internal transcribed spacer, β-tubulin, calmodulin and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit) revealed that the strains formed an independent clade in section , which is sister to , and . The strains and their relatives have different growth on creatine agar, yeast extract sucrose agar and dichloran 18 % glycerol agar, different branching patterns (mostly monoverticillate or biverticillate, less frequently divaricate or terverticillate), and different sizes and surface structures of conidia.

Impact of Low Bone Mineral Content Index on Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

The prognostic value of bone mineral content (BMC) for the clinical outcomes of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) remains unknown. The present study evaluated the association between BMC index (BMCI) and cardiovascular events between January 2020 to June 2021, in consecutive patients (n = 257) with CAD undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at the Nagano Municipal Hospital. BMCI was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis and calculated as the BMC divided by height squared.

Exploratory Study of the Relationship between an Oral Fungal Swab Test and Patient Blood Test Data.

Our understanding of the relationship between oral and systemic conditions has significantly increased recently, which this study aims to extend further by investigating the risks of oral candidiasis. A total of 314 patients were involved in this study and underwent an oral swab test at the Department of Oral Medicine, Hokkaido University Hospital, between January and December 2021. Data were collected on age, sex, white and red blood cell counts, Hb, total protein, vitamin B12, as well as serum albumin, iron, copper, and zinc levels.

Cystoid Macular Edema following Treatment with Nanoparticle Albumin-Bound Paclitaxel and Atezolizumab for Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Cystoid macular edema (CME) is a rare side effect associated with chemotherapy. Although the development of CME has been reported to occur following treatment with taxane drugs, such as nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel (Nab-PTX), the occurrence of CME with treatment with atezolizumab has not yet been reported. Here, we report the case of a 49-year-old woman who developed CME 19 months into chemotherapy with Nab-PTX and atezolizumab.

Pollen morphology varies at inter- and intraspecific levels. Its interaction with pollinator behavior and morphology determines the probability of successful pollination. Stimuli-responsive transformable biomaterials development can be manipulated practically by fine-tuning the built-in molecular design of their structural segments. Here, we demonstrate a peptide assembly by the bola-type amphiphilic polypeptide, glycolic acid-polysarcosine (PSar)--(L-Leu-Aib)--PSar-glycolic acid (SLS), which shows morphological transformations between hydrophilic chain-driven and hydrophobic unit-driven morphologies. The hydrophobic α-helical unit (L-Leu-Aib) precisely controls packing in the hydrophobic layer of the assembly and induces tubule formation.

Effect of temporal changes in stamen position on reproductive success in flowers with many stamens: Manipulations of stamen position.

Premise: Male and female reproductive success is enhanced (increased outcrossing and seed production, respectively) by stamen movement in species that have few stamens per flower. Does such enhancement also occur in species that have many stamens per flower?

Methods: We examined the effects of stamen movement on male and female reproductive success in Anemone flaccida, which has many stamens per flower. We measured stamen movement, including temporal changes in anther-stigma and anther-anther distances.

[A Case of Spinal Cord Metastasis from Breast Cancer Successfully Treated with Trastuzumab Deruxtecan].

Objective: Intramedullary spinal cord metastases(ISCM)are very rare in patients with breast cancer and have a poor prognosis with no established treatment. We report a case of ISCM in a patient with HER2-positive breast cancer who was successfully treated with a novel anti-HER2 agent, trastuzumab deruxtecan(T-DXd, ENHERTU®).

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a serious side effect of weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy for breast cancer, that can persist for years. Cryotherapy therapy is effective for preventing early CIPN, but its protective effect on persistent CIPN is uncertain. This is a cross-sectional study conducted as an ancillary analysis of a randomized trial investigating the preventive effect of cryotherapy on CIPN in breast cancer patients receiving weekly paclitaxel-based chemotherapy (UMIN000034966).

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis presenting with eosinophilic myocarditis as the only organ involvement.

Unlabelled: A 45-year-old man with a history of bronchial asthma had fever and elevated eosinophils on the day of surgery for sinusitis, resulting in cancellation of the surgery. Two days later, he was referred to our department for electrocardiographic abnormalities. We suspected eosinophilic myocarditis (EM) since he presented with fever, left ventricular hypokinesis, and hypertrophy on echocardiography, and eosinophilia with elevated cardiac enzymes.

Longitudinal antigenic and seroepidemiological analyses of parechovirus A1 in Yamagata, Japan.

To investigate the antigenic changes in parechovirus 1 (PeVA1), seroepidemiological analyses were performed against the Harris strain (Harris), isolated in 1956, and PeVA1/Yamagata.JPN/2021-4785, isolated in 2021, using immune sera and 207 and 237 human serum specimens collected in 2021 and 1976, respectively. Although rabbit immune sera showed the highest neutralization antibody (NT-Ab) titers against the immunized viruses at 1:12 800-1:102 400, they were cross-reactive at 1:400-1:800.
