The recognition of the newborn as a separate patient with special unique needs and rights began relatively late compared to other medical disciplines. This process occurred concomitantly with the development of modern neonatology in the country and the establishment of special care nurseries. The process included organization of skilled teams, standardization of treatment methods, introduction of standardized language and practices, and teamwork optimization.
