Influencing attitudes towards antimicrobial use and resistance in companion animals-the impact on pet owners of a short animation in a randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a vital One Health issue; the rational use of antimicrobials is essential to preserve their efficacy. Veterinarians cite pressure from pet owners as a contributor to antimicrobial prescription. Engaging pet owners in antimicrobial stewardship could reduce this pressure.

Copper-associated chronic hepatitis in Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

Background: Copper-associated chronic hepatitis (CuCH) is poorly characterised in Cavalier King Charles spaniels (CKCS).

Methods: Hepatic copper accumulation was qualitatively and quantitatively assessed, and blood samples were used for genetic testing to screen for known CuCH-associated genetic variants.

Results: The study included 13 CKCS with CuCH and eight unaffected controls.

Clinical and clinicopathological features and outcomes of cats with suspected dietary induced pancytopenia.

Background: After a strong epidemiological link to diet was established in an outbreak of pancytopenia in cats in spring 2021 in the United Kingdom, 3 dry diets were recalled. Concentrations of the hemato- and myelotoxic mycotoxins T-2, HT-2 and diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS) greater than the European Commission guidance for dry cat foods were detected in the recalled diets.

Objectives: To describe clinical and clinicopathological findings in cats diagnosed with suspected diet induced pancytopenia.

Feline primary erythrocytosis: a multicentre case series of 18 cats.

Case Series Summary: A retrospective multicentre case series of feline primary erythrocytosis (PE) was evaluated. The aim was to gain better understanding of disease presentation and progression to guide management and prognostication. Case records were assessed for evidence of increased packed cell volume (PCV; >48%), sufficient investigation to rule out relative and secondary erythrocytosis, and follow-up data for at least 12 months or until death.

ISFM Consensus Guidelines on the Diagnosis and Management of Feline Chronic Kidney Disease.

Practical Relevance: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the most commonly diagnosed diseases in older cats. In most cats, CKD is also a progressive disease and can be accompanied by a wide range of clinical and clinicopathological changes. These ISFM Consensus Guidelines have been developed by an independent panel of clinicians and academics to provide practical advice on the diagnosis and management of this complex disease.

Clinical experience with a lipid-free, ready-made parenteral nutrition solution in dogs: 70 cases (2006-2012).

Objective: To review the clinical use of a lipid-free, ready-made amino acid and glucose parenteral nutrition (PN) solution in dogs.

Design: Retrospective study of dogs from 2006 to 2012 that received this form of PN.

Setting: University veterinary teaching hospital.

Paraneoplastic hypercalcemia in a dog with benign renal angiomyxoma.

An 11-year-old, male, neutered crossbred Collie dog was presented for a history of polydipsia and polyuria. Diagnostic investigations revealed total and ionized hypercalcemia and an increased concentration of parathyroid hormone-related peptide. Abdominal ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a right-sided, cystic-appearing renal mass.

Congestive heart failure associated with a large transverse left ventricular moderator band in a cat.

Cardiomyopathy associated with abnormal trabecular bands of tissue traversing one or both ventricles is reported rarely in cats. The case of a 9-year-old cat which presented in congestive heart failure is reported. Multiple cardiac abnormalities were found, including a large trabecular tissue bridge which bisected the left ventricle.
