This research aims to develop, validate and implement health and safety performance metrics to evaluate the health and safety performance of sustainable building projects throughout their design and construction in Manitoba. Thirty-four metrics were developed following a detailed literature review and validated by expert judgement based on analytic soundness, practicality and predictability. Only 25 metrics satisfied these criteria, of which five were implemented via data collected on seven sustainable buildings and seven non-sustainable buildings.

Case: Avascular necrosis (AVN) and nonunion are common complications encountered with scaphoid waist fractures. We present a case of a 23-year-old man presenting with a right scaphoid fracture nonunion associated with AVN of the proximal pole. He was treated with a 1,2 intercompartmental supraretinacular arterial bone graft (Zaidemberg technique) in combination with a dorsal plate yielding excellent functional and radiographic results.

Pancoast tumours (PTs) are apical tumours of the lung that manifest with a variety of symptoms. Herein, we describe a rare case of a 56-year-old female with a one-month history of persistent left leg pain despite advanced imaging, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and orthopaedic input, which was focused onto her left knee being the prime cause of her pain. Her non-resolving symptoms prompted her to attend the Emergency Department.

Immunotherapy using checkpoint blockade (ICB) with antibodies such as anti-PD-1 has revolutionised the treatment of many cancers. Despite its use to treat COVID-19 patients and autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, the effect of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) on cancer immunotherapy has not been examined. In this study, remarkably, we find that HCQ alone, or in combination with azithromycin (AZ), at doses used to treat patients, decreased the therapeutic benefit of anti-PD-1 in cancer immunotherapy.

Background: Daylight photodynamic therapy (DL-PDT) has similar efficacy to conventional photodynamic therapy in treating actinic keratosis (AKs). Good clinical outcomes have been reported when associated with physical methods such as microneedles, but a comparison of different methods and histologic studies is lacking.

Objectives: To evaluate clinical and histologic modifications induced by standard DL-PDT and compare with DL-PDT associated with physical methods in treating skin field cancerization of the face.

The relationship between COVID-19 severity and viral load is unknown. Our objective was to assess the association between viral load and disease severity in COVID-19. In this single center observational study of adults with laboratory confirmed SARS-CoV-2, the first positive in-hospital nasopharyngeal swab was used to calculate the log10 copies/ml [log10 copy number (CN)] of SARS-CoV-2.

Accurate prediction of severity and mortality in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is important for allocation of resources. The APACHE II and SOFA scores are used to predict mortality in critically ill patients, however neither has been tested exclusively in DKA. We sought to determine if these scoring systems can accurately predict mortality in patients with DKA.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Chickpea was used in both greek and indian traditional medicine for hormonal related conditions as menstrual induction, acceleration of parturation, treatment of retained placenta and stimulation of lactation. Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) sprout isoflavone isolates exhibited reasonable estrogenic activities. Isoflavones, a subtype of phytoestrogens, are plant derivatives with moderate estrogenic activity that tend to have protective effects on hormonal and metabolic abnormalities of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Purpose: Geographic atrophy (GA) is a complication of advanced neovascular age-related macular degeneration that can lead to permanent vision loss. We sought to estimate the incidence and progression of GA after intravitreal injections of antivascular endothelial growth factor agents in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Methods: Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched from inception to May 2020.

The safety and effectiveness of nutricetics suggest that they may offer an alternative to pharmaceutical and surgical therapy for hormone-dependent disorders, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). We investigated the effects of Linum usitatissimum seed oil (LSO) on ovarian functionality, its molecular targets, and the oxidative response in hyperandrogenism-induced polycystic ovary. The composition of LSO has been analyzed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS).

Introduction: Sonographic technologies can estimate extravascular lung water (EVLW) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. This study investigated the suitability of a handheld scanner in contrast to a portable scanner for quantifying EVLW in hospitalized patients requiring HD.

Methods: In this prospective study, 54 hospitalized HD patients were enrolled.

Amphiphilic macrocycles, such as -sulfonatocalix[6]arenes (-SC6), have demonstrated great potential in designing synthetic nanovesicles based on self-assembly approaches. These supramolecular nanovesicles are capable of improving the solubility, stability, and biological activity of various drugs. In the present study, the biologically active harmala alkaloid-rich fraction (HARF) was extracted from .

Background: Cyanoacrylate glue (Glubran 2) is a synthetic adhesive mesh fixation material. Its utility is being evaluated in laparoscopic total extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair (IHR). A multicentre randomized controlled trial was performed comparing Glubran 2 to standard of care absorbable tacks, particularly assessing chronic postoperative inguinal pain and its effects.

GEMIN5, an RNA-binding protein is essential for assembly of the survival motor neuron (SMN) protein complex and facilitates the formation of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), the building blocks of spliceosomes. Here, we have identified 30 affected individuals from 22 unrelated families presenting with developmental delay, hypotonia, and cerebellar ataxia harboring biallelic variants in the GEMIN5 gene. Mutations in GEMIN5 perturb the subcellular distribution, stability, and expression of GEMIN5 protein and its interacting partners in patient iPSC-derived neurons, suggesting a potential loss-of-function mechanism.

Background: Severe hypercalcemia is often associated with uncontrolled malignancy through several mechanisms. However, calcitriol-mediated hypercalcemia is a rare etiology for advanced solid tumors.

Case Presentation: We report a case of calcitriol-mediated hypercalcemia secondary to immune checkpoint inhibition in a responder with metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Melanomas commonly undergo a phenotype switch, from a proliferative to an invasive state. Such tumor cell plasticity contributes to immunotherapy resistance; however, the mechanisms are not completely understood and thus are therapeutically unexploited. Using melanoma mouse models, we demonstrated that blocking the MNK1/2-eIF4E axis inhibited melanoma phenotype switching and sensitized melanoma to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy.

COVID-19 is a global pandemic that aroused the interest of scientists to prevent it and design a drug for it. Nowadays, presenting intelligent biological data analysis tools at a low cost is important to analyze the biological structure of COVID-19. The global alignment algorithm is one of the important bioinformatics tools that measure the most accurate similarity between a pair of biological sequences.
