Comparison of Research Knowledge in Postgraduate Trainees of Clinical and Basic Health Sciences of a Tertiary Healthcare Setup: A Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment.

Background:  All recent advances in healthcare, including diagnostics, surveillance, management, and disease prevention, have depended on good-quality research that has brought new information to light. Therefore, in Pakistan, it is important to develop good research skills as, for many years, our physicians have relied on research knowledge from the Western world, which does not necessarily provide solutions to a developing country. Considering the gap in research knowledge among young doctors, the study was planned to compare the research knowledge of postgrad trainees of clinical and basic health sciences (BHS) of private tertiary care hospitals in Karachi.

Caudal duplication syndrome: A rare entity.

The rare caudal duplication syn drome is a spectrum of anomalie s primarily involving par tial or compl ete dupl ication of organ s comp risin g the gastro intest ina l, genitourinary and distal neu ral tube system s. These findings are considered to be a result of aberrant embryogenesis. We hereby report a case of an adult female with comple te duplicat ion o f the genital and ur inary systems (ureth ra and bladder), hindgut a nd lower end of vertebral col umn with no functional impairment.

Alternative routes for tranexamic acid treatment in obstetric bleeding (WOMAN-PharmacoTXA trial): a randomised trial and pharmacological study in caesarean section births.

Objective: To examine the safety, efficacy and pharmacology of intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM) and oral tranexamic acid (TXA) use in pregnant women.

Design: Randomised, open-label trial.

Setting: Hospitals in Pakistan and Zambia.

Transmission of Salmonella worthington by oropharyngeal suction in hospital neonatal unit.

An outbreak of Salmonella worthington infection in a neonatal unit occurred in a pediatric ward of Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The index case was a prematurely born male child from whose clinical specimens S. worthington was recovered.
