Introduction: Nearly all patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) report ear-nose-throat (ENT) symptoms. However, scarce evidence exists about how ENT symptoms relate to pulmonary disease in PCD. We explored possible associations between upper and lower respiratory disease among patients with PCD in a multicentre study.

Using baseline data from the Ear, nose and throat (ENT) Prospective International Cohort of PCD patients, we describe sinonasal disease in PCD.
Methods: We included participants who had a routine sinonasal examination during which they completed a symptoms questionnaire.

Introduction: A Core Outcome Set (COS) is an agreed list of outcome domains to be reported by all studies investigating a condition. A COS for Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) in children with cleft palate exists (called MOMENT), but there isn't one for otherwise-healthy children. This study investigates whether the MOMENT COS could also be applicable to otherwise-healthy children.

We report the case of a 2-year-old Caucasian male who presented to a tertiary ENT centre with a left sided mastoid swelling and drowsiness after having been treated unsuccessfully for unresolving ear pain and discharge for 6 weeks. He was subsequently found to have mastoiditis with intracranial complications caused by mycobacterium TB.

Drooling occurs commonly in children below the age of two. In a small group of children this persists and an otorhinolaryngology consultation is sought. In children with no neurological abnormality or comorbidity, reassurance and behavioural management is often suggested.

Background: Chronic granulomatous invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (CGIFRS) is a rare disease. The underlying immune responses that drive the development of CGIFRS, as opposed to successful pathogen clearance and controlled inflammation, are not currently known.
Objective: To characterize the immune responses associated with CGIFRS.

Introduction: Paediatric tracheobronchomalacia is a rare but potentially serious condition. Severe tracheobronchomalacia requires intervention or operation. This is an evaluation of a ten-year experience at an institution.

Novel therapeutic strategies that reduce the overall antibiotic consumption due to OM are required because, although widespread pneumococcal conjugate immunization has controlled invasive pneumococcal disease, overall OM incidence has not decreased. Biofilm formation represents an important phenotype contributing to the antibiotic tolerance and persistence ofS.

Objective: This study aimed to measure changes in disease-specific quality of life in children following tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy.
Methods: A multicentre prospective cohort study was performed involving seven ENT departments in England. A total of 276 children entered the study over a 2-month period: 107 underwent tonsillectomy and 128 adenotonsillectomy.
We describe here our experience in using sinus microdebrider to rapidly debulk and sculpt the tissues in cases of rhinophyma correction. We utilized the use of the 4 mm M4 Rotatable Cutting Straight Sinus Blade on a straight Straightshot M4 Microdebrider by Medtronic at 800 rpm oscillation which is normally utilised in our sinus surgery practice. The microdebrider is straightforward to use and is already stocked in most ENT departments.

As a result of their electrical nature, they are susceptible to electromagnetic interference and can be damaged by excessive electrical energy. Surgical diathermy is one source of such potentially damaging energy.

Objective: This trial aimed to compare the guillotine technique of tonsillectomy with 'cold steel' dissection, the current 'gold standard'.
Design: A single centre, randomised, controlled trial.
Methods: One hundred children aged 3 to 11 years who were listed for bilateral tonsillectomy were recruited.
Speech restoration after total laryngectomy has been revolutionized by the technique of tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP) and speech valve prosthesis placement. Unfortunately, complications may arise from this procedure, sometimes necessitating reversal and surgical closure of the TEP. We present a simple yet effective method of closing a TEP and review previously described techniques.

A total of 109 patients staged as T1 underwent endoscopic treatment with carbon dioxide laser (CO(2)), 36 cases were treated with type I or II cordectomies, and 73 patients underwent type III, IV or V cordectomies, with resection of all or part of the TA. Over a total of 109 patients, 6 (5.

Post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage rates and the degree of blood loss during guillotine tonsillectomy have not been reported in the recent literature.
Methods: This retrospective case note review assessed the degree of blood loss during guillotine tonsillectomy, as measured by the number of tonsil swabs used, and the post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage rate.
