Method: This is a primary, observational, prospective clinical study, developed in a Brazilian public hospital. Objective: The objective of this protocol is to evaluate the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy for the treatment of nipple pain or nipple trauma in women during the breastfeeding period.

Introduction: One approach that has been reported on the management of nipple pain or nipple trauma in lactating women is the use photobiomodulation therapy to heal the injury or to decrease pain intensity. The National Telehealth Program was founded by the Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Ministry of Education (Ministério da Educação - MEC) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia - MCT), to support the development of family healthcare teams throughout the country. The São Paulo Telehealth Center has developed the Telehealth Lactation Support program, which provides primary healthcare professionals with information on diverse aspects of breastfeeding. To review the curricula and content of 1st- through 5th-year elementary school science textbooks with respect to the presence or absence of terms related to breastfeeding, we conducted a descriptive study analyzing the curricula and 16 textbooks of 25 public schools in 03 municipalities of São Paulo between September 2010 and February 2011. In particular, we defined essential concepts to teach and explain breastfeeding to children. We found that no block themed curriculum explicitly addressed the theme of breastfeeding.

Descriptive cross-sectional study on breastfeeding experiences, using a questionnaire with 1078 children aged between 7 and 12 years, in the 3rd and 4th years of primary education in public schools. Most children knew that they and their siblings had been breastfed and had used a pacifier. Few had seen their mother breastfeeding, seen their father close to their mother while breastfeeding their siblings, or reported that nurses in the school had talked to them about breastfeeding.

The objective this study was to verify the agreement of the guidelines recommended by CDC and WHO to evaluate the nutritional state. This is a cross-sectional study, which counted with the participation of 254 children of ages 3 to 11 months and 29 days from São Paulo and Ribeirão Preto, performed from June 2005 to July 2006. Iron deficiency anemia is the most common nutritional deficiency among children. This cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study is part of a multicenter project, which verified the prevalence of anemia in children aged three to 12 months, treated by a health service unit in Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil. Our objective was to identify the health needs of women in their breastfeeding process. We interviewed 238 women and organized data according to proposal of the Collective Subject Discourse. By using the taxonomy of Matsumoto we found: Necessity of good conditions of life (having good alimentation; to work or to study; having time for itself; having sleep and adequate rest; having good mental health; having good conditions to breastfeed the baby); Necessity to have access to all the health technologies that contribute to improve and to draw out the life (to deal with the breastfeeding problems, to have access to health services); Necessity to have bond with a professional or health team; Necessity of self-care and autonomy and in the choice in the way of 'walking the life' (to have orientation about breastfeeding; to receive support from the professional; to feel self-confident to breastfeed).

This study aimed to get to know the social representations about support for breastfeeding in a group of breastfeeding women, as well as to identify the actions in their social environment these women perceive as supportive in their breastfeeding processes. Data were collected through a qualitative approach, using recorded semistructured interviews, organized in accordance with the Collective Subject Discourse and analyzed under the premises of Social Representations Theory. The objective of this study was to identify and compare the trace and the anxiety state on the 10th day postpartum and the anxiety state on the 30th day postpartum of primiparous and multiparous nursing mothers who present insufficient breast feeding indicators and nursing mothers with normal breast feeding, in order to verify the possible relationships between the anxiety state of the nursing mothers in those two moments with the insufficient breast feeding indicators presented. This is an exploratory and descriptive study, whose data has been gotten from 168 nursing mothers and their children by means of interviews in nursing consultations in the 10th and 30th day postpartum. The results obtained showed that primiparous and multiparous with insufficient breast feeding and primiparous with normal lactation presented higher anxiety state trace than the anxiety state on the 10th and 30th day postpartum.

This qualitative research aimed to know the main interfering elements in the breast-feeding process as experienced by professional women and by students, that was carried out with 65 professional women and students from a public university in São Paulo state. The data collection was proceeded by interviews which contents were analyzed according to Taylor and Bogdan and Symbolic Interactionism approaches. Results indicated that the breast-feeding process for these women demonstrated to be conditioned and highlighted by the conditions the women encounter in their domestic, professional, and study settings.

Our objectives were to verify the occurrence of nipple damage, according to the newborn and mother characteristics; to characterize the suction pattern of newborn, whose mothers present nipple damage. The sample was of 1020 lactating women and their infants, and of them, 84 were followed up by the researcher. It was verified that the gestational age of the newborn, the skin color, parity and the type of anesthesia received by the mothers during the labor were statistically significant for the occurrence of nipple damage.

This study describes the relationship between nursing doctoral dissertations and research lines defined by the Brazilian Nursing field in three areas: professional, care and organizational. It isa descriptive-exploratory research, based on reports of Graduate Programs evaluated by CAPES and on The Informative Guide of Nursing Research and Researchers CEPEn/ ABEn, from 1983 to 2001, totalling 448 abstracts. The care field includes the greatest production, followed by the organizational and professional areas.
