Herein, we report a benzothiazole based probe which exhibits aggregation induced emission in mixed solvents, v/v THF : water system. The blue emission observed in the solution is ascribed to the enolic emission of the excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) prone benzothiazole chromophore, as the aggregation induced by the protic solvent, water, is expected to restrict the phototautomerization of the probe to the keto form which generally emits in the red region. However, the green emission observed in the solid aggregated state is ascribed to its keto emission, as in the solid state the ESIPT process is activated owing to stable intramolecular hydrogen bonding, giving a keto-aggregation induced emission (AIE) coupled emission.

Background: Challenges exist in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in India. Lack of awareness of the disease, its symptoms and its implications may significantly contribute in preventing individuals with symptoms from seeking advice from their primary care physicians or eliminating risk factors. This cross-sectional survey aimed to explore the attitudes, beliefs, and knowledge of doctors (general practitioners [GPs], physicians and pulmonologists) related to COPD recognition, diagnosis, and treatment in India.

Introduction: An important factor responsible for suboptimal treatment in patients with obstructive airway diseases, which is often overlooked, is running out of medication. Addition of a dose counter to a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) allows the patient to reliably track number of actuations, identify when the label claim number of actuations has been reached, and when a new inhaler needs to be purchased.

Areas Covered: This article discusses the conventional methods for tracking doses in pMDIs, rationale of using dose counters, published evidence of studies, including performance and patient satisfaction with the use of pMDIs with dose counter.
