Can NiFe-Layered-Double-Hydroxide Catalysts Suppress Carbon Corrosion in Electrochemical Oxygen Evolution?

Sustainable energy societies demand rechargeable batteries using ubiquitous-material electrodes of geopolitical-risk-free elements. We aim to develop low-overpotential oxygen-evolution-reaction (OER) catalysts that suppress carbon corrosion of gas-diffusion electrodes (GDEs) to realize two-electrode rechargeable Zn-air batteries (r-ZABs). Herein, single-walled-carbon-nanotube (SWNT) thin films are used as a scaffold for a benchmark OER catalyst, doping-free NiFe-layered double hydroxide (NiFeLDHs), operating in r-ZABs using alkali aqueous electrolytes.

Prostate neuroendocrine carcinoma successfully treated with etoposide and cisplatin.

Introduction: The frequency of neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate is low, accounting for approximately 1%-5% of all prostate cancers. Herein, we report the case of a patient who was diagnosed with prostate neuroendocrine carcinoma and successfully treated with etoposide and cisplatin.

Giant hemorrhagic pancreatic pseudocyst with suspected cystic pancreatic tumor: a case report.

Pancreatic pseudocysts are surrounded by a non-epithelialized wall confined to the pancreas and localized to the pancreatic tissue or adjacent pancreatic cavity. In contrast, pancreatic cystic tumors occur less frequently than solid lesions and are often detected incidentally on imaging. Regarding the qualitative diagnosis of pancreatic pseudocysts, it is important to differentiate them from neoplastic cysts.

Hepatoprotective effects of baicalein against liver ischemia-reperfusion injury and partial hepatectomy in a rat model.

Background: Baicalein is the main active flavonoid in Scutellariae Radix and is included in shosaikoto, a Kampo formula used for treating hepatitis and jaundice. However, little is known about its hepatoprotective effects against hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI), a severe clinical condition directly caused by interventional procedures. We aimed to investigate the hepatoprotective effects of baicalein against HIRI and partial hepatectomy (HIRI + PH) and its potential underlying mechanisms.

Hepatoprotection of a Standardized Extract of Cultured Mycelia against Liver Injury Induced by Ischemia-Reperfusion and Partial Hepatectomy.

Sulforaphane (SFN) has various beneficial effects on organ metabolism. However, whether SFN affects inflammatory mediators induced by warm hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (HIRI) is unclear. To investigate the hepatoprotective effects of SFN using an in vivo model of HIRI and partial hepatectomy (HIRI + PH), rats were subjected to 15 min of hepatic ischemia with blood inflow occlusion, followed by 70% hepatectomy and release of the inflow occlusion.

Cadmium body burden and health effects after restoration of cadmium-polluted soils in cadmium-polluted areas in the Jinzu River basin.

Background: Itai-itai disease is caused by environmental cadmium (Cd) pollution in the Jinzu River basin in Japan. To reduce the Cd contamination of rice, soil restoration of paddy fields was carried out. We evaluated the effect of soil restoration on the health status of residents of the former Cd-polluted area.

Effect of renal tubular damage on non-cancer mortality in the general Japanese population living in cadmium non-polluted areas.

This study aimed to clarify the cause-effect relationship between renal tubular damage and non-cancer mortality in the general Japanese population. We conducted a 19-year cohort study including 1110 men and 1,03 women who lived in three cadmium-non-polluted areas in 1993 or 1994. Mortality risk ratios based on urinary β2-microglobulin (β2MG) and N-acetyl-β-glucosaminidase (NAG) concentrations were estimated for specific non-cancer diseases using the Fine and Gray competing risks regression model.

In this study, we report a solvent-compatible filter-transfer method for SWNT films stacked with silver nanowires (AgNWs), and evaluate the semiconductor characteristics through the p/n heterojunction with a Si wafer (SWNT/Si). AgNWs and SWNTs were successively filtered through their aqueous dispersion solutions using a membrane filter.

Tracheostomy decannulation rates in Japan: a retrospective cohort study using a claims database.

Despite the exponential increase in the use of tracheostomy worldwide, rates of tracheostomy decannulation are unknown. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate tracheostomy decannulation rates among adult patients over a two-year period and explored factors associated with prolonged tracheostomy. A health insurance claims database including 3,758,210 people in Japan was used.

Effect of Static Jahn-Teller Distortion on the Li Transport in a Copper Hexacyanoferrate Framework.

Prussian blue (PB) and its analogues (PBAs) are potential cathode-active materials for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Although a body of research has assessed the performances of various PB/PBA cathodes with an eye to practical use, the underlying Li-transport mechanism is still unclear. Focusing on copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF), a PBA that exhibits static Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion, we theoretically investigate how the framework's distortion affects the pathways and energetics of the Li transport.

In this study, we have prepared thermally and chemically stable lamellar polymer films via humid annealing. The amphiphilic polymer poly(-dodecyl acrylamide--3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl acrylate) [p(DDA/TMSPA)] forms a self-assembled lamellar structure via annealing at 60 °C under 98% relative humidity (humid annealing) due to nanophase separation between the hydrophobic dodecyl side and main chains with the amide groups that contain adsorbed water. Moreover, a self-cross-linking reaction of TMSPA proceeds during the humid annealing.

A case of undifferentiated carcinoma of the gallbladder with severe inflammation and difficult preoperative chemotherapy.

[Case of Unresectable Gastric Mixed Neuroendocrine Neoplasm(MiNEN)Treated with Chemotherapy].
