Vaginal trachelectomy, which involves resecting the cervix and its parametrium, is a fertility-sparing option for the treatment of early-stage cervical cancer. Although no consensus has been reached on whether simple or radical trachelectomy is preferable, the vaginal approach is typically avoided for tumors larger than 2 cm due to concerns about recurrence. However, some evidence suggests that fertility preservation may still be viable for select patients with larger tumors.

This study examined the risk of intrauterine infection associated with radical trachelectomy (RT) in early-stage cervical cancer patients. This procedure preserves fertility but is linked to increased risk of intrauterine infection due to cervical defects during pregnancy. DNA was extracted from the formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) placental specimens of 23 pregnant post-RT patients and 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used for bacterial identification.

Dehydration of a cellulose nanofiber (CNF)/water dispersion requires large amounts of energy and time due to the high hydrophilicities and high specific surface areas of the CNFs. Various dehydration methods have been proposed for CNF/water dispersions; however, an efficient dehydration method for individually dispersed CNFs is needed. Here, electrodeposition of CNFs was evaluated as a dehydration method.

Article Synopsis
  • - Early diagnosis of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) is crucial for safer management during pregnancy, prompting researchers to explore maternal serum biomarkers linked to PAS development through transcriptome analysis.
  • - The study involved analyzing placental tissue from cases of placenta increta and percreta, revealing significant reductions in key placenta-specific genes compared to normal placental tissue.
  • - Among the biomarkers investigated, PSG6 showed a consistent decrease in expression from increta to percreta, suggesting that the PSG family, particularly PSG6, could serve as an effective diagnostic indicator for PAS.

Purpose: Radical trachelectomy (RT) with pelvic lymphadenectomy has become a new treatment option for young patients with uterine cervical cancer stages 1A2-1B1 who desire the preservation of their fertility. However, the application of RT for pregnant patients is still controversial. We comparatively studied both obstetrical and oncological outcomes of pregnant patients who underwent vaginal RT during pregnancy and those who underwent vaginal RT before pregnancy.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that presents with a variety of pathologies depending on the disease type. Among them, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome requires extremely careful management as there have been many reports of fatal perinatal complications such as uterine rupture. Although hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is less likely to cause fatal complications, symptoms such as arthralgia, hip dislocation, and depression may be seen throughout pregnancy.

Article Synopsis
  • A stereogenic π-system was created using [2.2]paracyclophane dimers (2) and trimers (3), which were analyzed for their structural and photophysical properties.
  • X-ray analysis showed that dimer 2 has a double helical structure while trimer 3 forms an isosceles triangle with a significant chiral cavity.
  • Both compounds exhibit strong fluorescence and a similar circular dichroism effect, attributed to an electronic transition within the quaterphenyl moiety, with dimer 2 exhibiting higher strain energy due to its twisted structure.

Intrauterine infection is one of the most important causes of maternal death. In perinatal emergency, we often miss an opportunity to obtain culture specimens. In this study, we tried to examine whether we investigated whether bacteria causing infection can be detected from a formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) placental specimen.

Unveiling the details of the mechanisms of a chemical reaction is a difficult task as reaction mechanisms are strongly coupled with reaction conditions. Here, catalysts informatics combined with high-throughput experimental data is implemented to understand the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) reaction. In particular, pairwise correlation and data visualization are performed to reveal the relation between reaction conditions and selectivity/conversion.

Organic thin film materials with molecular ordering are gaining attention as they exhibit semiconductor characteristics. When using them for electronics, the thermal management becomes important, where heat dissipation is directional owing to the anisotropic thermal conductivity arising from the molecular ordering. However, it is difficult to evaluate the anisotropy by simultaneously measuring in-plane and cross-plane thermal conductivities of the film on a substrate because the film is typically as thin as tens to hundreds of nanometers and its in-plane thermal conductivity is low.

The accumulation of Tc-labeled probes targeting saturable systems of the body is hindered by the presence of a large excess of unlabeled ligands needed to ensure high radiochemical yields in a short reaction time. To address the issue, we recently reported a novel concept of a metal-coordination-mediated synthesis of a bivalent Tc-labeled probe from a monovalent ligand using d-penicillamine (Pen) as a chelating molecule and c(RGDfK) as a model targeting device. The Pen-conjugated c(RGDfK) via a hexanoate linkage (Pen-Hx-c(RGDfK)) provided a bivalent [Tc]Tc-[(Pen-Hx-c(RGDfK)) that possessed much higher integrin αβ binding affinity than Pen-Hx-c(RGDfK) and visualized a murine tumor without purification.
