Study Objective: To determine the proportion of patients discharged with a urinary catheter after a same-day benign gynecologic minimally invasive hysterectomy (MIH) according to active vs passive voiding protocols. The secondary objectives included assessing postanesthesia care unit (PACU) duration and postoperative urinary retention (POUR) rate ≤2 weeks of discharge.
Design: Retrospective, observational cohort study.
To apply laser-sintered titanium (Ti) materials to dental prostheses with a three-dimensional structure such as partial dentures, we examined the microstructures and mechanical properties of commercially pure (CP) Ti grade (G) 2 annealed after laser sintering and laser-sintered (as-built) Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The tensile and fatigue properties of CP Ti G 2 annealed at 700 °C for 2 h after laser sintering were close to those of wrought CP Ti G 2 annealed at the same temperature after hot forging. The ultimate tensile strengths (σ) of 90°- and 0°-direction-built CP Ti G 2 rods after laser sintering 10 times were 553 and 576 MPa and the total elongations (TE) of these rods were 26% and 28%, respectively.

The tensile and fatigue properties of the laser-sintered Co-Cr-Mo alloys were extremely superior to those of dental-cast alloys. The ultimate tensile strength (σ) and total elongation (T.

A 65-year-old male was diagnosed as having a 0-IIc-type early gastric cancer on the posterior wall of the upper stomach by gastrointestinal endoscopy in search of a cause of epigastralgia, and thus received proximal gastrectomy and pyloroplasty. Although the tumor was in the early stages and limited within the mucosal layer, adjuvant chemotherapy was started by using S-1 80 mg daily due to evidence of metastasis into lymph node #3 at the lesser curvature.

A reduction in cholesterol with 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitors (statin) significantly reduces mortality and morbidity. Statins may be associated with cognitive impairment or dementia.

Aim: To evaluate the hair growth-promoting activities of an extract from the root of Sophora flavescens Aiton.

Objective: Hair thickness is more important than hair density in the appearance of baldness in male with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Adenosine improves hair loss by stimulating hair growth and by thickening hair shafts in women. The objective of this study was to evaluate the hair growth efficacy and safety of topical adenosine in men with AGA.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common type of baldness in men. The balding process is associated with the gradual miniaturization of hair follicles and successive hair loss. However, the relative contributions of hair density and diameter to AGA are still unclear.

An 85-year-old woman with a medical history, including chronic renal failure treated with oral administration of prednisolone, underwent colectomy due to an ascending colon cancer. While the postoperative course was favorable, she exhibited acute severe abdominal pain and massive bloody discharge after 11 days of surgery.

On endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), and abdominal CT, we diagnosed the Is+IIa+IIb-like ss lesion invasive gallbladder cancer, but endoscopic double contrast cholecystography suggested IIa+IIb-like ss invasive gallbladder cancer because the lesion had the same granular membrane a other cancer membrane and cholecystectomy was carried out. The pathologic diagnosis was IIa+IIb-like ss invasive gallbladder cancer.

Objective: Features of Japanese women's hair with aging and with progressing hair loss were investigated.
Methods: Japanese women with hair loss (n=46) or with no or less hair loss (n=113), aged 14-68 years, were studied.
The destabilization of vesicles caused by interactions between lipid bilayers and proteins was studied by direct, real-time observation using high-intensity dark-field microscopy. We previously reported that talin, a cytoskeletal submembranous protein, can reversibly open stable large holes in giant liposomes made of neutral and acidic phospholipids. Talin and other proteins belonging to the band 4.

The amino acid sequences of the archaeal RadA proteins are more similar to the eukaryotic Rad51s rather than the bacterial RecAs, and the N-terminal region containing domain I is conserved among the RadA and Rad51 proteins but is absent from RecA. To understand the structure-function relationship of RadA, we divided the RadA protein from Pyrococcus furiosus into two parts, the N-terminal one-third (RadA-n) and the residual C-terminal two-thirds (RadA-c), the latter of which contains the central core domain (domain II) of the RecA/Rad51 family proteins.

CoCl2 significantly reduced both the cytotoxic activity and radical intensity of dopamine (determined by ESR spectroscopy). Dopamine produced DNA fragments (demonstrated by TUNEL method) and induced degradation of cytokeratin by activated caspase in HSG cells (detected by an immunocytochemical method, using a specific M30 monoclonal antibody).

Furthermore, the cytoplasm of EGCG-treated HSG cells was stained by M30 monoclonal antibody, which detects the degradation product of cytokeratin by activated caspase. The apoptosis-inducing activity of EGCG was significantly reduced by millimolar concentrations of CoCl2.

Three anticancer drugs (tamoxifen, sulindac, doxorubicin), two metals (CuCl2, FeCl3) and two antioxidants (sodium ascorbate, tiopronin) did not significantly affect the cytotoxic activity of EGCG, Catalase and N-acetyl-L-cysteine only marginally reduced the cytotoxic activity of EGCG. On the other hand, CoCl2 significantly protected the cell injury induced by EGCG.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSeveral methods for the evaluation of hair growth have been reported; however, none of the hitherto reported methods are satisfactory as unbiased double blind studies to evaluate the efficacy of hair growth agents. In the present paper, we describe quantitative evaluation methods for hair growth by measuring the anagen ratio and hair diameters in 56 Japanese subjects aged 23-56 for 3 years. The average anagen ratio decreased by 3.
