Background: Injectable poly- l -lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) increases extracellular matrix to improve skin quality. The hip dell is an underappreciated element of gluteal aesthetics. Adipose tissue has roles in aesthetics and skin functioning.

Variation in Lip Shape and Aesthetics in the Young Female Population: A Statistical Atlas Study.

The distribution of lip shapes in young females and how morphological variation relates to attractiveness are poorly defined. We hypothesized that among young female lip images generated by a statistical atlas model, those with more full lips compared with those with less full lips would be perceived as more attractive as measured by anonymous survey participants. A statistical atlas of lip morphology was created using photographs of 700 women aged 18-35 years.

Correcting for Rater Effects in Operating Room Surgical Skills Assessment.

Objective: To estimate and adjust for rater effects in operating room surgical skills assessment performed using a structured rating scale for nasal septoplasty.

Methods: We analyzed survey responses from attending surgeons (raters) who supervised residents and fellows (trainees) performing nasal septoplasty in a prospective cohort study. We fit a structural equation model with the rubric item scores regressed on a latent component of skill and then fit a second model including the rating surgeon as a random effect to model a rater-effects-adjusted latent surgical skill.

Comparison of nasal valve dysfunction treatment outcomes for temperature-controlled radiofrequency and functional rhinoplasty surgery: a systematic review and meta-analyses.

Background: Nasal valve dysfunction (NVD) is a substantial contributor to nasal airway obstruction. Minimally-invasive temp-erature-controlled radiofrequency (TCRF) treatment of the nasal valve is available and comparison with surgical techniques is warranted.

Expert Consensus Statement: Management of Dysphagia in Head and Neck Cancer Patients.

Objective: To develop an expert consensus statement (ECS) on the management of dysphagia in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients to address controversies and offer opportunities for quality improvement. Dysphagia in HNC was defined as swallowing impairment in patients with cancers of the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, nasopharynx, oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx.

Methods: Development group members with expertise in dysphagia followed established guidelines for developing ECS.

The relationship between the value of reconstructive surgery and the visual attention drawn by facial deformity has not been studied. We hypothesized that willingness to pay (WTP) for reconstructive surgery would increase as visual attention to deformity increased in a Mohs defect eye-tracking model. We conducted a randomized observational study.

Surgeons must select cases whose complexity aligns with their skill set. To determine how accurately trainees report involvement in procedures, judge case complexity, and assess their own skills. We recruited attendings and trainees from two otolaryngology departments.

Case Report: Infantile Urticaria as a Herald of Neonatal Onset Multisystem Inflammatory Disease With a Novel Mutation in NLRP3.

Neonatal multisystem onset inflammatory disorder (NOMID) is a severe autoinflammatory syndrome that can have an initial presentation as infantile urticaria. Thus, an immediate recognition of the clinical symptoms is essential for obtaining a genetic diagnosis and initiation of early therapies to prevent morbidity and mortality. Herein, we describe a neonate presenting with urticaria and systemic inflammation within hours after birth who developed arthropathy and neurologic findings.

Surgery involves modifying anatomy to achieve a goal. Reconstructing anatomy can facilitate surgical care through surgical planning, real-time decision support, or anticipating outcomes. Tool motion is a rich source of data that can be used to quantify anatomy.

Fever and flagellate dermatosis in an otherwise healthy woman.

We report a rare presentation of adult-onset Still disease (AoSD) with flagellate dermatosis and unknown trigger. Atypical skin findings have been increasingly reported for AoSD and may be associated with worse prognosis and systemic complications. Increased awareness of nonclassic skin findings in AoSD may lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Evidence-Based Performance Measures for Rhinoplasty: A Multidisciplinary Performance Measure Set.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery commissioned the multidisciplinary Rhinoplasty Performance Measure Development Work Group to identify and draft quality measures for the care of patients undergoing both functional and aesthetic rhinoplasty. One outcome measure and three process measures were identified. The outcome looked at patient satisfaction with rhinoplasty procedures.

Implementation of Novel Protocols in an Ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgical Center to Resume Surgical Procedures During COVID-19.

Background And Objectives: With the resumption of elective ophthalmic surgery during COVID-19, revised protocols were mandated to protect both staff and patients from transmission while increasing case numbers. We discuss a widely generalizable and in-depth protocol intended to safely allow the restart of elective procedures in 2 dedicated ophthalmic ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) using monitored anesthesia care.

Methods: A single-center review of protocols and practices designed to limit COVID-19 transmission.

The Valuation of Rhytidectomy in Different Economic Markets.

This study demonstrates that the trend of how rhytidectomy is valued can be used to determine not only the pricing of this good but also how receptive developing economic markets are to the export of cosmetic facial plastic surgery. This study seeks to analyze and compare the value of rhytidectomy in an established market and an emerging market. A cross-sectional survey was administered through public online forums to 162 casual observers in the United States and 74 casual observers in India.

Free Functional Gracilis Flaps for Facial Reanimation in Elderly Patients.

The free functional gracilis flap (FFGF) is a versatile procedure in reanimating the paralyzed face, yet its application in seniors is limited by perceptions of morbidity and inefficacy. The study objective was to compare the morbidity and effectiveness of FFGF reanimation among senior and younger patients. A retrospective chart review was performed on 20 consecutive patients aged 60 years and above (seniors) and 35 patients aged 40 years and below (juniors) who underwent FFGF for facial reanimation.
