The tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) is a crucial factor in controlling tumor growth. A therapeutic method activating TIL is desired for treating patients with metastatic tumors. Here, we show that treating a local tumor with a combination therapy of UV-irradiated hemagglutinating virus of Japan envelope (HVJ-E) plus agonist antibodies, including OX40, against T cell costimulatory molecules induces systemic anti-tumor effects in a T cell-dependent manner in multiple cancer cell lines.

It is necessary to evaluate the efficiency of reduction for cyanide and cyanoglycosides during the manufacturing process from raw material beans to sweetened bean paste in a food hygiene control system from the viewpoint of food safety. Analytical methods for cyanide and cyanoglycoside determination in sweetened bean paste by HPLC with fluorescence detection were developed. In analysis of collection time of free cyanide in the free cyanide assay, the recovery was improved by extending the collection time, the recovery rate was >80% by 2 h.

Evidence on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for people receiving chronic hemodialysis has been rather scarce in the literature. We report the case of a 74-year-old male patient with major depressive disorder on chronic hemodialysis for 14 years with numerous physical complications including abdominal aortic aneurysm, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, and cerebral stroke. Several antidepressant drugs failed to improve the patient, but judicious implementation of a total of 6 ECT sessions under a close liaison with medical experts brought him into remission without any notable adverse effects.

We examined the acute impact of both low- and high-glycemic index (GI) breakfasts on plasma brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and dynamic cerebral autoregulation (dCA) compared with breakfast omission. Ten healthy men (age 24 ± 1 yr) performed three trials in a randomized crossover order; omission and Low-GI (GI = 40) and High-GI (GI = 71) breakfast conditions. Middle cerebral artery velocity (transcranial Doppler ultrasonography) and arterial pressure (finger photoplethysmography) were continuously measured for 5 min before and 120 min following breakfast consumption to determine dCA using transfer function analysis.
