In cases of unresectable, locally advanced esophageal cancer, conversion surgery may be considered if chemotherapy produces favorable results and surgical resection is indicated. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors in chemotherapy for esophageal cancer has expanded, and has increased the number of cases in which conversion surgery becomes possible. The patient in the present report had received a diagnosis of Stage Ⅳa esophageal carcinoma, and a prior nephroureterectomy discouraged the administration of platinum-based agents.

Hyperammonemia induced by 5-fluorouracil(5-FU)is known as a rare adverse event, but there are few reports of hyperammonemia occurring during FP(5-FU plus CDDP)treatment for esophageal cancer. We report a case of esophageal cancer with consciousness disorder due to hyperammonemia during FP treatment with an examination of some of the relevant literature. The patient was a man of approximately 70 years of age who was received FP treatment.

A 14-year-old Japanese girl died unexpectedly 2 days after receiving the third dose of the BNT1262b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Autopsy findings showed congestive edema of the lungs, T-cell lymphocytic and macrophage infiltration in the lungs, pericardium, and myocardium of the left atria and left ventricle, liver, kidneys, stomach, duodenum, bladder, and diaphragm. Since there was no preceding infection, allergy, or drug toxicity exposure, the patient was diagnosed with post-vaccination pneumonia, myopericarditis, hepatitis, nephritis, gastroenteritis, cystitis, and myositis.

(GyVg1, previously recognized as avian gyrovirus 2), which was first reported in chicken in 2011, is a new member of the genus Gyrovirus. The presence of GyVg1 has also been confirmed in different regions of Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia, indicating its global distribution. The complete nucleotide sequence of the S1 glycoprotein gene of the Japanese infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) strains was determined and genetically analyzed. A total of 61 Japanese IBV strains were classified into seven genotypes, namely GI-1, 3, 7, 13, 18, 19, and GVI-1 using the classification scheme that was proposed by Valastro et al, with three exceptions. These genotypes practically corresponded to those defined in Japan, namely Mass, Gray, JP-II, 4/91, JP-I, JP-III, and JP-IV, which have been identified through their partial nucleotide sequences containing hypervariable regions 1 and 2.

Here, we report the genomic characterization of a fowl adenovirus serotype 4 strain isolated from a chicken with hydropericardium syndrome in Japan. The viral genome of FAdV-4 strain JP/LVP-1/96 was found to be 45,688 bp long. Amino acid substitutions at position 219 (G to D) in the fiber-2 protein and at position 188 (I to R) in the hexon protein, which are commonly found in virulent FAdV-4 strains, were also found in the JP/LVP-1/96 strain.

In vivo function of CDK5 and Abl enzyme substrate 2 (Cables2), belonging to the Cables protein family, is unknown. Here, we found that targeted disruption of the entire locus () caused growth retardation and enhanced apoptosis at the gastrulation stage and then induced embryonic lethality in mice. Comparative transcriptome analysis revealed disruption of , 50% down-regulation of abutting on the locus, and up-regulation of p53-target genes in gastrulas.
