Objective: This meta-analysis explored genes in common between breast cancer (BC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) in women. Breast cancer and CRC are causes of significant morbidity and mortality in women worldwide. Research has shown that women are underrepresented in clinical trials, especially in oncology; studying sex differences in cancer addresses this lack.

In this paper, we explore the representation of audio data as graphs in the context of sound classification. We propose a methodology that leverages pre-trained audio models to extract deep features from audio files, which are then employed as node information to build graphs.

Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) fills a critical role of ensuring that any neurological insults during certain surgical procedures are caught in real-time to prevent patient harm. IONM provides immediate feedback to the surgeon and anesthesiologist about the need for an intervention to prevent a neurologic deficit postoperatively.

First, extraction of HA and DBM was independently conducted, followed by chemical and morphological characterization. Second, mixtures of HA/DBM were prepared in 50/50 and 60/40 concentrations, and the chemical, morphological, and mechanical properties were evaluated.

The objective was to develop a planning tool faithful to the reality of this type of ailment as well as to that of Puerto Rico (PR).
Methods: The proposed model organizes a given neurological disease into 3 progressive phases of deterioration; in each, the model collects the typical associated costs and adjusts them based on their value over time.
Hurricane Maria was a disastrous weather event that devastated Puerto Rico (PR) in September 2017. Yet, little is known about people's perceptions of this event. In this investigation, we offer insight about Hurricane Maria's impact on PR's inhabitants.

The consequences of these phenomena can leave individuals' recovery in their own hands until order is re-established, and support can reach out to them. This work aims to develop a tool to guide individuals through their decision-making during a hurricane disaster and recovery, using the experience of Hurricane María.

Nowadays, a new technique for rapid tooling, Additive Manufacturing (AM), can create customized products with more complex geometries and short life cycles (flexibility) in order to keep up with the new variables imposed by the manufacturing environment. In the last two decades, the migration from subtractive manufacturing to AM has materialized such products with reduced costs and cycle times.

Reproducibility in the sciences makes it necessary to emphasize objectivity and systematic repeatability in biological and informatics analyses, including gene selection. With these two characteristics in mind, in previous works our research team has proposed using multiple criteria optimization (MCO) in gene selection to analyze microarray datasets.

Over the last 20 years, coffee farms and landscapes across the region have undergone rapid and profound biophysical changes in response to low coffee prices, changing climatic conditions, severe plant pathogen outbreaks, and other drivers. Although these biophysical transformations are pervasive and affect millions of rural livelihoods, there is limited information on the types, location, and extent of landscape changes and their socioeconomic and ecological consequences.

The problem of determining the optical properties of (111) PSi is board through implementing a photoacoustic (PA) technique coupled to an electrochemical cell for real-time monitoring of the formation of porous silicon thin films. PA amplitude allows the calculation of the real part of the films refractive index and porosity using the reflectance self-modulation due to the interference effect between the PSi film and the substrate that produces a periodic PA amplitude.

In the present work, morphological, microstructural, mechanical and tribological characterization of the shed skin of two snake species, namely Boa Red Tail and Python Regius was carried out. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analyses showed the existence of deterministic patterns, i.

The aim of the present study was to undertake a meta-analysis at the individual patients level to capture the possible effect of ethnicity, gene-gene interaction, or other drugs on the association and to verify if inclusion of CYP4F2*3 variant into dosing algorithms improves the prediction of mean coumarin dose. We asked the authors of our previous meta-analysis (30 articles) and of 38 new articles retrieved by a systematic review to send us individual patients' data.

In this study, we apply mathematical optimization to approach microarray analysis to detect differentially expressed genes and determine the most correlated structure among their expression changes. The analysis of GSE4757 microarray dataset, which compares expression between AD neurons without neurofibrillary tangles (controls) and with neurofibrillary tangles (cases), was casted as a multiple criteria optimization (MCO) problem.

A step toward this end is the detection of genes that are important in the illness from high-throughput biological experiments. Furthermore, it is safe to say that it is highly unlikely that these show expression changes independently, even with a list of potentially important genes.

Background: It is estimated that 2 to 35 of newborns present a congenital malformation. Some publications suggest that vascular disruption birth defects are not associated with chromosomal alterations detected by conventional karyotype.
Objective: to determine the frequency of chromosomal alterations detected by high resolution G banded karyotype in patients with vascular disruption birth defects in a Colombian population (South America).
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by a CGG expansion in the FMR1 gene located at Xq27.3. Patients with the premutation in FMR1 present specific clinical problems associated with the number of CGG repeats (55-200 CGG repeats).
