Clinical value of iodine-123 beta-methyliodophenyl pentadecanoic acid (BMIPP) myocardial single photon emission computed tomography for predicting cardiac death among patients with chronic heart failure.

In the present study, the effectiveness of 123I-beta-methyliodophenyl pentadecanoic acid (BMIPP) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for predicting cardiac death of patients with chronic heart failure was evaluated. Abnormalities of fatty acid metabolism are found in patients with chronic heart failure and BMIPP was developed as a tracer for scintigraphic assessment of myocardial fatty acid utilization. The study group comprised 74 patients with chronic heart failure with a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) <45% on left ventriculography or radionuclide angiocardiography.

Doxorubicin cardiotoxicity: prevention of congestive heart failure with serial cardiac function monitoring with equilibrium radionuclide angiocardiography in the current era.

Background: Congestive heart failure (CHF) is among the most serious toxicities of doxorubicin, a potent cancer chemotherapeutic agent. Serial left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) monitoring during doxorubicin therapy for preventing CHF was proposed over 20 years ago. The current utility and cost-effectiveness of this approach in the present era are not known.

[New trials for improving diagnostic accuracy of stress technetium-99m-tetrofosmin single photon emission computed tomography].

Objectives: This study evaluated the influence of extra-cardiac accumulation in technetium-99m-tetrofosmin myocardial single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging.

Methods: Technetium-99m-tetrofosmin myocardial SPECT was performed in 247 patients from 1997 to 1999. To evaluate the sensitivity, 42 patients with inferior infarction were selected.
