Preoperative hypovitaminosis D and complications in plastic surgery: a pilot study.

Introduction: Vitamin D plays a crucial role in various biological processes, including the well-known regulation of the immune system and calcium metabolism. While its involvement in the surgical outcomes of various medical specialties is recognized, there is a lack of consistent data regarding plastic surgery. This study aimed to assess preoperative serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and its relationship with complications in patients undergoing reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgeries.

Evaluation of sepsis treatment with enteral glutamine in rats.

Objective:: to analyze the influence of glutamine on morphological and histological changes observed in the ileum, lung, kidney and liver of Wistar rats subjected to sepsis.

Methods:: we induced sepsis by cecal ligature and puncture. We divided the animals in two groups: group A, control, with five animals, and group B, experience, with ten animals that received enteral glutamine two days before sepsis induction.
