Article Synopsis
  • EUCAST has advised limited use of temocillin mainly for treating non-serious urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by specific bacteria, with a recommended dose of 2 g every 8 hours.
  • A review of temocillin prescriptions from 2016 to 2019 showed that out of 153 cases analyzed, early clinical failure was significantly lower for UTI (4.9%) compared to other infections (26.7%).
  • The findings suggest that the current recommendations may be too strict, as temocillin at a dose of 2 g every 12 hours could effectively treat non-severe complicated UTIs caused by multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales.
