Aims: To evaluate the outcomes of epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery in highly myopic eyes and to compare them with those from non-highly myopic eyes.
Methods: Retrospective nested case-control study from a cohort of 1776 consecutive patients (1776 eyes) who underwent surgery for ERM. Fifty-seven highly myopic eyes (with axial length longer than 26 mm) were included in the study group and were matched for preoperative visual acuity and duration of symptoms with 57 non-highly myopic control eyes selected from the same cohort.
Unlabelled: No data are available about the prediction of long-term survival using repeated noninvasive tests of liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C (CHC). We aimed to assess the prognostic value of 3-year liver stiffness measurement (LSM), aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio index (APRI), and fibrosis 4 (FIB-4) evolution in CHC. CHC patients with two LSM (1,000-1,500 days interval) were prospectively included.

Design: Retrospective nested case-control study from a cohort of 496 consecutive patients (496 eyes) who underwent surgery for MH.
Participants: Forty-seven highly myopic eyes (with axial length >26 mm) were included in the study group and were matched for MH size and duration of symptoms with 47 non-highly myopic control eyes selected from the same cohort.
Aims: Our main objective was to improve non-invasive fibrosis staging accuracy by resolving the limits of previous methods via new test combinations. Our secondary objectives were to improve staging precision, by developing a detailed fibrosis classification, and reliability (personalized accuracy) determination.
Methods: All patients (729) included in the derivation population had chronic hepatitis C, liver biopsy, 6 blood tests and Fibroscan.
Background And Aim: We carried out morphometric measurements of steatosis to evaluate relationships between steatosis degree and other liver lesions or metabolic syndrome components in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Patients And Methods: We developed an algorithm to measure steatosis area. Two hundred and fourteen patients with NAFLD were included in derivation (10) and validation (204) groups.
Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is a multifactorial disease caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It is the first cause of blindness in patients over 50 in the western world. The disease has been traditionally classified into early and late stages with dry (atrophic) and wet (neovascular) forms: neovascular form is characterized by new blood vessels development under the macula (choroidal neovascularisation) which lead to a rapid decline of vision associated with metamorphopsia and requiring an urgent ophtalmological examination.

A newborn who had familial high myopia presented with bilateral dense vitreous hemorrhage after forceps delivery. Vitrectomy in the right eye revealed a macular hole surrounded by pigmented cells. After subsequent surgery, the macular hole healed and remained closed during 10 years of follow-up, but profound amblyopia persisted.

Background: Parents' misbeliefs about pain management may inhibit them from managing their child's pain appropriately. Educating parents about pain management may increase their knowledge, dispel myths and help decrease children's pain intensity and unpleasantness related to pain following a visit to an emergency department.
Aims: Our aim was to develop an accurate, non-invasive, blood-test-based method for identifying the main characteristics of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods: Fibrosis was staged according to NASH-CRN and Metavir systems in 226 patients with NAFLD. A fully automated algorithm measured the fractal dimension (FD) and the area of fibrosis (AOF).
Purpose: To compare the functional and the anatomic outcomes of a combined surgery and consecutive surgery for macular hole and cataract extraction.
Design: Multicenter, retrospective, comparative case series.
Patients: One hundred twenty patients (120 eyes) with an idiopathic macular hole and cataract were operated on in 1 or 2 sessions in 2 academic centers, Dijon University Hospital and Nancy University Hospital.
Purpose: To assess the functional and anatomic outcomes of cataract and idiopathic epiretinal macular membrane extraction in combined and consecutive surgeries.
Design: Multicenter, retrospective, comparative case series.
Methods: One hundred seventy-four patients (174 eyes) with an epiretinal macular membrane (ERM) and cataract were operated on in 1 or 2 sessions in 2 academic centers, Dijon University Hospital and Nancy University Hospital.
Purpose: To evaluate the role of preoperative macular hole (MH) diameter, cataract surgery, and cystoid macular edema (CME) in the reopening of idiopathic macular hole (IMH) after initially successful surgery.
Design: Multicenter, retrospective, comparative case series.
Methods: One hundred and thirty patients (135 eyes) with stage 2, 3, or 4 IMH were included after successful IMH repair at Dijon University Hospital or Nancy University Hospital.

Background: To assess the functional and anatomical outcome of primary vitrectomy without scleral buckling for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in pseudophakic patients and to present the learning curve for this surgery in less experienced surgeons.
Methods: We reviewed the charts of pseudophakic patients treated with primary vitrectomy without scleral buckling for a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with PVR
Background/aims: To compare blood tests of liver fibrosis specific for NAFLD: the FibroMeter NAFLD and the NAFLD fibrosis score (NFSA) with a non-specific test, APRI.
Methods: Two hundred and thirty-five NAFLD patients with liver Metavir staging and blood markers from two independent centres were randomly assigned to a test (n=121) or a validation population (n=114).
Results: The highest accuracy--91%--for significant fibrosis was obtained with the FibroMeter whose (i) AUROC (0.
Purpose: To compare two therapeutic modalities on anatomic and functional results after idiopathic macular hole (MH) surgery: seated vs face-down position.
Design: Multicenter, prospective, randomized trial.
Setting: University Hospital Dijon and University Hospital Nancy.
Unlabelled: The impact of ribavirin exposure on sustained virological response (SVR) in patients with chronic hepatitis C is unknown. Preliminary studies showed marked inter-individual variability of ribavirin concentrations despite dose adjustment for body weight (BW) and suggested there was a correlation between single time point concentrations and SVR. None of them evaluated the global exposure to ribavirin.

Methods: A retrospective non-randomised study of 634 macular surgery procedures was undertaken in two academic centres. Idiopathic macular hole (IMH) surgery (n = 272) and epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery (n = 362) were performed between 2000 and 2003.
Purpose: To report on the outcome of combined pars plana phacofragmentation, vitrectomy, and Artisan lens implantation in the management of subluxated cataracts.
Methods: This prospective, interventional, nonrandomized case series included nine eyes of seven consecutive adult patients with traumatic lens subluxation. Pre- and postoperative data (complete manifest refraction, best spectacle-corrected visual acuity, slit-lamp examination findings, intraocular pressure, fundus status, numerical density of endothelial cells, corneal thickness, and complications) were collected prospectively for all patients.
